We haven't had cable since 2010--Amazon Prime fulfills all our needs

However, we did want the local channels. Even with 2 different antennas (including one that was supposed to be pretty high powered) we could never reliably get WFAA (ABC). Which sucks, because the only thing I ever want to watch on local channels is Once Upon a Time (ABC) or the OU/TX game (again, also on ABC)! There is an old thread I started a few years ago around here with some good suggestions.

We have never tried a roof antenna--that may do the trick.

Channels via antenna?

We have a standard HD Antenna (with UHF/VHF adjustment) and enjoy compressed free clear 1080p reception. Our TV caught almost 40 channels including some Mexican ones. Very happy to cut cable few years back and take control. Some channels on cable are really good but our kids were glued to the TV and was impacting their studies. Locally transmitted channels like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, ION and KERA has some excellent programming enough for our our needs with less parental controls. The antenna needs a one time adjustment (specially for ABC). Once adjustment is made, we rarely touch it since our antenna is behind our TV and cannot be tampered easily.

Hulu plus offers all ABC shows. The only catch is you have to wait a day after its broadcast to watch the most recent one. It includes the entire season and all seasons of some shows. Its basically my broadcast TV "DVR". I can watch whatever I want, whenever I want.
