Does anyone know of any neighborhoods that have block parties for 4th of July and possibly other holidays? We I live now in CA, our whole town pretty much have a big giant block parties in various neighborhoods on the 4th of July. Our street gets blocked off and neighbors would put up canopies on their front lawns and just hang out, some would even rent bounce houses for the neighborhood kids to play in, BBQ on the drive ways and people share recipes or just eat and drink a beer (not drunk) having a good time, and people are all out on the street walking around as one big ole party. I'm looking to see if there are any towns or sub divisions like this as I'm house hunting in the norther suburbs of Dallas. Would love to find a neighborhood where people do this sort of stuff and they all know each other to have these sort of events.

They do one in Lakewood. So I'm sure there must be others around.

If you are asking about individual block parties (as opposed to community wide parties), my block in highland park does this. So does the block next to us and numerous others I know of in the area. Any block can do it if you get all the neighbors to sign off to close down the block.

I can't speak for the Dallas suburbs, but in the city, tons of neighborhoods have 4th of July parades. The Park Cities and Lakewood have the largest ones, but I can think of at least 10 other neighbohoods that also do parades.

As for block parties, they are common throughout the city, but of course it depends on the exact block. Our block has a tons of younger families and has one every fall but the next block down has a lot of original owners (1950's neighborhood) and I haven't noticed them have one.

Munger Place and Junius Heights have an annual neighborhood party. In addition, Munger Place has monthly porch parties at various neighbor's homes. Junius Heights has a monthly supper club.

My neighborhood is pretty social. We do a 4th of July bike parade, a fall fest and some other larger events. But one of the most popular has been Curbside Cocktails. It's a bit of a misnomer since it's actually really just a block party and the kids ride their bikes and scooters around in the street and play frisbee. And there's usually a main dish of some kind provided by the host and then crazy amounts of yummy food.

Most of the time it's individual block parties. I think Highland Park is out of my price range. Any ideas of any neighborhood in either Plano, Frisco, Murphy, Allen or McKinney that does this?

This sounds pretty cool. Which neighborhood do you live in?

I've seen a lot of communities do block parties for National Night Out:

National Night Out

Vickery Place does a yearly block party too

There are parties at parks in the Heights....Heights Park has a parade and there's almost always a party at Durham Park in Richardson Heights on major holidays. We don't shut off a block to have parties since most of our streets are not cul-de-sacs and it would obstruct traffic.
