Lakewood/East Dallas in Dallas ISD: All Woodrow Wilson High School cluster schools met standard, the top ranking. All earned academic distinctions (a star in each area) except for Mount Auburn. Leading the way was Stonewall Jackson with five stars, Woodrow and Lakewood with four stars, J. L. Long with three stars, Robert E. Lee with two stars and Lipscomb Elementary with one star.

For instance, Woodrow’s four areas of distinction are in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Closing Performance Gaps. J. L. Long's stars are for Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Social Studies and Postsecondary Readiness.

Thanks for posting this!

Stonewall Jackson and Lakewood are top notch, as usual.

How do these new distinctions work? Do they actually mean anything?

I just wonder what's going to happen when STAAR passing standards are finally raised to the final passing standard. Or is the state going to keep kicking that can on those final standards so they can continue to say we have decent passage rates(on tests that have extremely low passing standards).

I would imagine they will keep kicking, unless we get Wendy Davis in there and we get some actual increases in funding.

I don't think the distinctions actually mean something. For example, my charter school beat the living ##it out of our "sister charter school", in STAAR scores. I'm talking we beat the state average in all but two subcategories, and they trailed the state average in all but two subcategories. We have very high standards. For example, 75% of our 4th graders passed math STAAR and we were not too terribly happy about that. The sister school had a passing rate of the same group of about 55%.

Anyway, so the bottom line is that the sister school received 3 marks of distinction out of 6 possible. We received 2 marks of distinction out of 6 possible.

Imo, nobody but the seriously deranged with absolutely nothing to do has a clue about how the marks of distinction work. (I'm almost at that point, but not quite there)

I do know one thing. My charter school is consistently getting very good results, so we cannot get anything for improvement. We're already there.

Our first day of in-service next week ought to be interesting. I predict high comedy, with the administration going on and on about the sister school, because of their 3 marks. They did improve, so I will applaud. But come on, we all know the truth. You were so low, there was only one direction to go.

I noticed that Plano West Senior High, Carroll High and Highland Park High got 6 stars. How did Frisco, Allen and Coppell do?

Liberty did better than either Plano East and Plano high with the same number of stars but with a higher number in student achievement score than even Plano West....

Yeah. Considering 3,4 stars of other Frisco High schools, 5 is good. Allen didn't do too well and earned only 2 stars. Plano Senior got 5, Coppell got 5 and even Plano East got 5. Not many were successful in getting all 6 but Plano West, Highland Park and Carroll. Congrats to top ranking campuses. Special award goes to Plano East for performing so well and uplifting ED & ESL demographics. They surprise me every time. Great school.

Was pleased to see that Richardson High School got 6 stars and Pearce HS got 5. Additionally, Richardson West Tech Magnet got 7 stars and a "high performing" designation from the TEA. West Richardson secondary schools really seem to be undergoing a renaissance as the children of all the young families who have moved in over the past decade are getting up into junior high and HS.

Lake Highlands got 4 stars and Berkner 3, which isn't too shabby either.

Another East Dallas elementary, Hexter, got six stars. Although it's not our feeder pattern a lot of those kids end up at Long and Woodrow through transfers for IB or the other academies.

Irving remains pathetic, I see. Love my town, but when your schools make DISD look good....
