Just curious why you would not want alleys?

They keep you from having to pull trash cans around front every week
Allow garages to be hidden behind the house improving appearance of the neighborhood
Make it much easier to access your back yard if you ever want a store a boat, build a pool, home maintenance etc

Not sure what the down side is

This is California dialect.

The OPs post is consistent with what my clients say when they come to DFW to visit for the first time.

The six most consistent comments I get are:

1. Its clean. Really clean.
2. Traffic is not that bad at all.
3. Wow. The schools are great.
4. Ethnically diverse, highly integrated, with mixed race families all over.
5. The local governments seem to work for us.
6. Everyone is friendly and wants to help.

My police officer buddies tell me that alleys add to criminal opportunities for house break-ins, theft, etc. Alleys
add to their patrol duties simply by adding another "road" to patrol. That is the downside to alleys.

Makes sense.

Agreed. Alleys are awesome.

I know that. Guess what, though? This isn't California.

LOL...no it isn't. Nobody says "Central Expressway" unless they're reporting traffic accidents on television.

This. I was born and raised in Dallas and it's always been "Central" or "75."

There's a few reasons why.

Maybe it's just because we really don't have that here in CA and I"m not used to seeing it. When I think of alleys, I think of less than desirable places where bad things tend to happen in the "alley". But most of all, it's really narrow and my wife drives a big truck. I would think it would be a huge hassle going down the narrow alley every day to get to your garages especially with other cars around being in a big truck.

Lastly, I like working in my garage. With front garages, I can be in there and watch my kids playing out front at the same time.

That's definitely on the list for our next visit. We were just too cramped on time and mostly focused on looking at where we might live and the city wasn't an option.
