I was considering buying in the last few months and ideally was looking in that ballpark of price. Within the Dallas area, I don't think you'd find $150K for new construction. I was only finding older places in older neighborhoods (and older housing with more character was fine with me, but that's another discussion).

That said, I also strongly echo what the others said regarding commute - find a house near your work. DFW is massively expansive and traffic can be a total bear. What you'd save in cost of construction can easily be swallowed in commuting costs (not to mention headache).

Forney. A little higher than $150k, and it would be the basic house. Over an hour commute to downtown during traffic - 45 min on Saturdays. Other new construction can definitely be found for $200k.

On the theory that new construction would be priced in the approximate range of existing homes within a given area, you might check out this map tool to get a broad idea of areas that fit your budget:

I was driving through Oak Point yesterday and noticed a subdivision sign that advertised (I think) Lennar homes from $140K. But that is really out there. Closer to Denton.

Bottom line - you really do need to drop the idea of new construction vs. existing. You will be able to buy in much nicer areas move convenient to your place of employment.

I dont know how new the OP is looking for but 4 yrs ago new homes were being built in Mesquite/Balch Springs area for 125. A coworker purchased one and I went to her house warming party. They were really nice looking homes.

The surrounding area is pretty high crime, and the schools are awful. You get what you pay for...

I didnt say anything about the area or schools in my post. That is not what the OP asked. They wanted to know where to get new construction for that price point and I simply told them. I said the house was nice. I mentioned nothing about the area.

4 years ago is a lifetime in this RE Market. House prices were depressed in many areas back then.

Inflation has kicked in for land, materials and labor with many areas seeing a 25-50% increase in the last 18 months. Back in July the DM News had an article about New Construction costs having gone up on an average of 24% in 12 months. Many areas had 35-45% increases in a year.
