Macy's at Valley View Mall
Just saw that Macy's has announced they are closing several stores (9 to be exact) w/ the one at Valley View Mall being one. I guess the only other Texas store is the one in Houston at Sharpston.
When Foley's was looking for a buyer they really scaled back on employees and stock. I'm sure it was to make the profits look better on paper. Macy's has not changed anything since buying Foley's and the service and merchandise are so-so.

I can't say I'm surprised that store is closing. There's a much better Macy's just down the street at the Galleria. Unless something goes in that space, that mall will go downhill more than it has been.

I don't think VV can survive losing an anchor. That mall has been struggling for several years. I know they lost an anchor in the past, but eventually a new tenet filled the space. Not to mention the economy in general isn't so hot. Collin Creek has barely been scraping by since losing Mervyns, and now some sports bar is going in the old Mervyns pad.
I hate to see VV go, I worked there off and on during my junior and senior year of H.S.

Bloomingdale's closed up at VV way back when. It is a shame because we ALWAYS loved that mall and went there often even after Prestonwood opened. Remember when Prestonwood opened and everyong thought then that VV would shutter up? VV outlasted Prestonwood by a long shot. Even though the Galleria is right down the road VV has prospered as they both had a different niche to fill. For the longest and even sometimes nowadays the Galleria is a PITA to get to. Valley View was SO MUCH more convienent to hop into and shop for something in a hurry.
As for Collin Creek, per some inside info, it is expected to be shuttered in 5-10 years. I'm thinking that new entertainment complex coming is only going to attract more of the unsavory characters that are flocking to CC. Collin Creek ain't what it used to be by far. They are supposed to renovate it this year w/ new tile and all but I don't see that helping as the stores that are IN the mall are not up to par w/ what it used to be. It has become a hang out more than anything. It has kind of sunk below even the lowest levels that Town East has seen.
I want to know how the stores inside Willow Bend stay in business??? I've yet to be impressed w/ Willow Bend and it is deserted every time I've been in there. The stores that are in the mall are not high paying tenants either. It is far from the "high class" they were hoping it to be. The anchors and the Red Door Spa are the only thing that mall has going for it and they don't seem to be busy at all.

I really like Willow Bend. Aside from not being very crowded it has one of my favorite indoor playgrounds for my 3 year old. Of course, most of the time I go there it's for her to play and I don't spend lots of $ there, but it's still a good mall.
It always seems very clean and safe, which is more than I could say for VV!
To me, it feels like even 4-5 years ago VV was an ok mall to go to. I'm not sure what happened... How could a place go downhill so quickly? Maybe I've just gotten pickier since I've graduated from the "impoverished college student" phase of my life.

It's too bad that the Macy's in the Galleria didn't become a Bloomingdales when Macy's took over Foley's and then maybe the Macy's store at VV could have survived. VV used to be a really good mall, even with the Galleria down the street. There used to be a really cool poster store in there I loved going into, which had tons of cool music posters.
It's too bad that Collin Creek has become so outdated. I haven't been there in ages, but I am told it sure isn't what it used to be.

After Bloomingdales left, that pad was empty for like six years. That in and of itself is a major accomplishment. I'm just not sure it can do it again.
Willow Bend has been struggling as well, but that was just developers being arrogant. They insisted on only high end luxury stores, Sears and Penny's weren't good enough for them.
I can see CC being gone in 5 years, its heading towards the same slow death Richardson Square and Bigtown did. A lot of the smaller non anchors have left and are being replaced by the same types of odd little shops that Richardson Square had. I expected CC to go under when several years ago when they built two new malls in Plano and one if Frisco, but it survived that. Losing Mervyns, and Firewheel opening really seemed to hurt it.
Prestonwoods demise was so quick and unexpected.

I kind of thought so too, but getting across Plano isn't that easy and I think CC survived awhile on that. But I think Firewheel and eventually Fairview is going to do them in. I know a lot of people in East Plano, Murphy, Parker, Wylie, Richardson and Garland that would rather go to Firewheel than deal with the traffic around CC for what little bit is left in that mall.
When I still lived in N. Garland I'd go to CC but hated having to park so far away and still walk all over the mall to get what I wanted. But when Kohl's opened up and Richardson Square had gone through their revitalization (SteinMart, B&N, Old Navy, etc) I skipped CC for an entire year, including Christmas.
When Firewheel opened I might have been to CC once that year, but hit Firewheel at least 10 times in 8 weeks. (I remember counting because I'm not a mall girl). I like the in and out aspect of Firewheel and some of the other open air shopping areas. And I can't imagine going back to the days of dragging a whiny pre-teen around a mall with me trying to do back to school shopping.
