Can anyone speak to a favorite all-organic grocery store (if possible) in the area?
The closest Whole Foods from Castle Hills is about 7 miles east in Plano at Preston and Park. The Cosco at the Tollway and Park (about 4 miles from CH) has a large variety of fresh vegetables and fruits too.

I'm moving to Dallas from Atlanta in about a month. Any Atlanta transplants? I know that Dallas doesn't have Publix, so is there anything comparable in the area? I'm going to miss Publix

Not really. We have no shortage of grocery stores but not anything just like Publix. Your closest comparison is probably going to be Tom Thumb but it's not a very good comparison IMO.

Out of those 3 listed...definitely Kroger!

I also shop at:
Walmart--for bulk items like flour, sugar, canned items are usually cheaper, and cereal
Sprouts Farmers Market--for produce and specific health/organic items I enjoy
Kroger--meat and sale items.

I hate Tom Thumb. Prices are all over the place and it irritates me that someone is in every aisle tripping over themselves to "help" you. I like to shop in peace.

I am from Florida and thought Publix was as good as it gets. However, I have changed my mind - I love Market Street. It takes Publix one step up. Customer service is great as well is freshness of produce. Weekly items on sales are competitive.

Ask anyone in Dallas where they grocery shop and they will probably give you a laundry list of complaints; ask anyone in San Antonio where they shop and they will extol praises on HEB.

Central Market is great for certain things, but like someone mentioned the prices are high. Regular HEB stores have much lower prices and more options.
When living in Dallas Oak Lawn I would shop Kroger for typical off the shelf items. Specialty items I would get at Whole Foods. And WF's has awesome soups of the day.

I'm in central Texas now and shop almost exclusively at HEB, buying HEB brand items preferred over brand names. Seems to be the same taste and quality stuff, or old age. But they don't have much Boar's Head.

If there was a Market Street close to me, I'd go there. Now Kroger is number one, Tom Thumb number two and Central Market number three. All three are very close to home. Albertson's never seems clean to me so I avoid that place like the plague. I agree with the person who doesn't like being greeted by everyone at Tom Thumb. I expect to be greeted by my cashier and whomever I have questions for (deli, bakery, etc.) but I like to shop in peace. I come in peace... :-)

Just a random tidbit about Tom Thumb employees greeting: I worked at Tom Thumb back when I was in high school and they really do have "forced customer service." They expect the employees to greet EVERY customer (also forcing cashiers to thank by last name is a little invasive) or else you get written up (happened to me when I was off the clock and walking to my car in the parking lot. =/)

At my local Tom Thumb they're all over you if you know exactly what you are looking for and find it immediately, but if you are struggling to find something (because they are always moving things around), they clear off.

I honestly think if they relaxed their strict rules on their "forced customer service", they'd actually end up giving better customer service. Best service is genuine service and I think they would actually be more available to assist you when you need help.

I'm just glad to find other people who think that the whole thing is rather annoying.
