Been here for 6 months now & just starting to look for a new home to buy.

Initially when I moved here I was thinking about Frisco/Plano/Allen but now I am not so sure - the commute seems minimum 1hr each way + toll.

Have 2 kids - 1 will be starting KG next year; So school ratings are important; wife is not working now - at least that will be the status for 2 more years. After the second one starts KG is when she will be going back to work. She is in IT & is saying Frisco/Plano is the better option as it seems better located for that line of work.

However I am not so sure - after doing 1.5hrs minimum each way in NJ/NY for 7 years I don't want to do it again. I am thinking of Flower Mound (Canyon Falls) or Lantana.

Canyon Falls - I can take 377 -144 - 635 to office; I expect this to be still at least 45mins door to door.
Lantana - Justin - 2499 - 635 to office; expect it to take the same time again with more signals if not more

Budget would be 350k - thats the max;

What would you recommend?

^Yeah that?

If you want to get a little more house for your money and still have good schools, look in southern Flower Mound, but otherwise just stay where you are!

A 3rd vote for limiting your search to Coppell and Flower Mound. Both have top public schools - on par with Plano and above Frisco- so no need to sign up for an awful commute! As for your wife, BigDGeek is a poster who works in IT so maybe PM her for more info but I know she recently was contacted about a job in Las Colinas so they so exist in the Coppell / Irving/ Central metroplex area.

+1 for limiting your search to Coppell and Flower mound. I live in Coppell, so I might be biased , but I find Coppell/las Colinas very convenient with highway access and frisco/plano is hardly 30 mins away in 121/161/Dallas tollway. Flower mound is a little interior, but if you want more house for your money, then yeah, a great choice.

Have you thought about Castle hills ? Not a bad choice with good schools.

It seems Flower Mound has newer/new houses compared to Coppell hence we are paying more attention to Flower Mound. Have to look up Castle Hills. Thanks!

Another vote for Coppell. Nice area, good schools, easy commute, plenty of properties in your price range.

Grapevine or Southlake may other ones to consider.

New houses in Coppell are priced much higher when compared with Flower Mound. The trade-off will probably be a longer commute to work from FM

Default Coppell

Coppell for sure if you dont like the commute and would liek to be central to most of the metroplex in case of a job change later on and closer to highways.

I spoke with an agent couple of hours ago and he was suggesting Little Elm that will be in Frisco ISD. Said the commute will be 30mins to Coppell and will be get more than what I get in Flower Mound.

I think in Coppell, for the 350k I might get a 4 bed room built around 1970s with no renovation.
