Looking for a good, strong parish and school. Mens groups, mom's groups, frequent confession. Any advice? Thank you.

My husband will be all over the city and suburbs as a contractor and I will find part time work at the nearest hospital- I am a nurse. My husband seems interested in Lake Highlands. I tend to like suburbs but don't know what any of them are like yet.

St. Patrick's serves the lake Highlands area. It's located at Walnut Hill & Ferndale.

We attend St. Thomas Aquinas at Abrams & Kenwood in the Lakewood area. We made that choice based on the fact that both priests at St. Pat's are foreign (one German and one African) and I have trouble understanding them during Mass (I have a 90% hearing loss). We have friends who attend St. Pat's and love it. Both parishes have a strong community.

Our kids do not attend school at St. Thomas, but to my understanding, it is an excellent school. I have heard the same of St. Pat's.

I have hear St Ann's in Coppell has a very involved parish: St. Ann Catholic Parish | Coppell, TX although that is a bit of a distance from Lake Highlands.

Thank you. Does anyone know about the parishes in Plano? Prince of Peace?

Also, what hospitals in Dallas are Catholic-run?

None that I am aware of. Fort Worth All Saints is Baylor now, and St. Paul is UT Southwestern.

As another new person just relocating to the area, I thought I'd chime in. Our children attend Bishop Dunne Catholic School grades 6-12. It's in South Dallas (North Oakcliff). We are very happy with it so far.

We just moved here from Denver, CO in September. We are still deciding where to settle in terms of buying a home. We have tried going to many Catholic churches in the area and St. Ann's was the first one everyone said we should check out. If you like the mega-church experience, that place is for you. If you prefer smaller church parishes/communities, you'll want to look elsewhere. We are used to smaller...we have found Holy Spirit in Duncanville, again, south Dallas area...and it is small in comparison to other Catholic churches in the area...but 9x larger than our home parish back in Denver. So far, we're happy there.

Off-topic "local" advice for you --> North Oak Cliff is NOT in South Dallas. South Dallas is the roughest, poorest, most crime-ridden neighborhood south of I-30. It is the collection of neighborhoods surrounding Fair Park (south of I-30, east of I-45). Just FYI you may get some "raised eyebrows" saying your kids to to school in South Dallas

I'm interested in hearing your experience! We're coming from Littleton. Does Dallas seem pretty family-friendly? I'm not sure if I want a large or small parish experience yet. I see positive attributes in both. Are you renting for now?
