No special requirements in Richardson that I'm aware of, but if you plan to move here check with the city first.

Many apt complexes also ban aggressive breeds or dogs over a certain size.

They can. When you purchase HOA property, you enter into a "contract" with stated terms that can include a provision that you agree not to own specific breeds.

A letter from a mental healthcare practitioner saying the dog is therapeutic for your "condition" will make the dog exempt from any breed restrictions, public or private. The letter does not even have to elaborate on the "condition" because its against ADA for anyone to ask. In rental agreements it also makes the pet exempt from pet deposits, pet rent, and pet related fees (but not exempt from cost of damage they may cause). It also exempts them from no-pets policies. The letters are good for one year then a new one must be written.

I live in Plano and they have so many ordinances on dogs its almost a hassle to have a dog. Whatever city you are interested in should have the pet ordinances available on their website.

So you're telling the OP to make up a condition so they can be exempted from legitimate restrictions? Because no where did they state any condition. I'm fairly certain that would fall under the definition of fraud.

Not true, HOA's and municipalities can have lots of restrictions beyond what the State may restrict.

Municipalities may not override the state on this issue.
