My family will be relocating from Los Angeles to Dallas within the next few months. We are a gay, female couple with a six month old son. I'm Jewish and my partner is Christian, but we raising our son Jewish. My partner has family in Dallas and we are very excited to relocate close to them. All the people I've met there have been wonderful, but I would really love to find a progressive area close to a Temple and Jewish pre-school where our son will feel accepted and safe. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you.

You might look in North Dallas, also look in the Brentfield Elementary attendance zone (near Hillcrest and Cambell Rd in Far North Dallas), also off Hillcrest/Ohio in Plano near Frankford.

If you look at where the private Jewish schools are located those are good areas to look in, but there is also a high Jewish population at Brentfield which is a public school.

There really are no equivalents to the Jewish neighborhoods one finds in L.A. My wife and I moved here from L.A. over the summer (Pico/Robertson). The areas that are considered more specifically "Jewish" are going to be North Dallas between Hillcrest and Preston south of the 635 and Far North Dallas near Frankford and Hillcrest. I make no judgements but these are mostly traditional/orthodox areas and a gay and intermarried couple probably are not going to get the warmest welcome.

Generally the neighborhoods closer to downtown are more liberal friendly. You aren't going to find a Jewish neighborhood but you should be able to find a reform temple that might fit what you are looking for in that area.

Reminds me of the evil stares and comment I got from an orthodox lady in the checkout line at the Tom Thumb on Forest and Preston because I bought sushi with shrimp(!). LOL!

Shame on her for making a comment or staring. It's not her business what you eat.
