I have never heard of the Dallas one. The Northaven one has been around a long time and has a great reputation. There is also one in Richardson called the Creative School Coop or something similar that I've heard good things about. It's also been around 30 years or so. But, that Dallas one, never heard of it.

Thanks for the comments FarNorthDallas. This is what I was a bit concerned about too. As a native where we live if someone asked about a school that I too wasn't familiar with, probably a not so great sign. We tend to know the better schools as you do.
In other words, most of the better schools are well known. I'll check it out when in town. There was also a newer school called Park Cities Cooperative (or community) preschool. These both are central which with little ones the scheduling and proximity to home/work is important!

Dallas Cooperative Preschool
Hello,
This is probably a little late. But, better late than never as they say. We have been at the Dallas Cooperative Preschool for 2 years and starting our 3rd year this year. We have loved being there. My oldest is starting kindergarten this year and I feel he is well prepared both academically and socially.
My youngest is starting his second year and loves going to school. I am the president of the board this year and have been active since day one. A huge benefit of a co-op type preschool is being involved in your child's learning and development at the school. We have serving days where the parents attend school with their child once a month, bring the snack and get to interact with their child and observe and participate in how they learn.
It is multi-age grouping which means all the kids are together first thing in the morning and during circle time. They break out into the younger class and older class depending on age before snack and then come back together as one main group after snack.
I could go on and on. The director has been there 20 plus years and is phenomenal. Enrollment is open for 3-5 year olds. We have a waiting list for Wednesdays, but the other days still have a few slots for the '08-'09 semester. Contact the school at 214-352-8702 for more details.

Hello Gretchen-
We decided not to take the offer in Dallas back in February. I was most disappointed that our youngest daughter would not be attending Dallas Co-op preschool. I have a background in Early Childhood and I was amazed by the wonderful environment for children. There is nothing that compares where we live. Our only disappointment was when we gave the director our 7 month notice she informed us, "No refund of your $500 deposit, this is stated in our policy". We were wrong to assume that the deposit would be refunded with enough notice. Many of the quality preschools where we live have waiting lists and with this kind of notice would have no problems replacing a child on the list. We were out the $500 and the director was less than forgiving of our situation. We would have understood a last minute cancelation but there was plenty of notice (7 months).
That being said, the school was wonderful, a true gem in Dallas. We were more than willing to drive for the right school. Thank you for your feedback. I hope people relocating to Dallas will look at your program!

Hello again,
Sorry to hear that you do not have a program similar where you live. I am surprised that co-ops are not more prevalent.
In regards to your deposit, that is a shame, but unfortunately the norm. I think you may have been were referring to the Northhaven co-op? Our co-op, Dallas Cooperative Preschool, is a $95 deposit and is also non-refundable.
Best of luck to you!
Gretchen
