Hi guys,
My family and are looking to relocate from Florida to Texas.
We're favoring Denton. Is that a real hard commute to downtown Dallas or Fort Worth? What's a really nice town with low crime, family values, great schools, quality of life, etc.? Not looking for a crazy commute. We're looking for something around the 200K range; 3500+ sq ft. What about Houston? Is the quality of life better in the north or down in the suburbs of Houston? What are property taxes, heating or A/C bills, health insurance costs like? Are there daycares downtown? (have 3 y/o). Any info would be great. Thanks!

The nicer suburbs of DFW and Houston are extremely similar to each other. But most of Houston will be more wooded. I think if you're looking for something nice over 3500 sq ft it's going to be a little more than 200K.

Denton to downtown Dallas? Prepare for a 1.5 hour commute on a good day. If you will be working in downtown or close to downtown, there are plenty of nice areas that will cut your commute in half. Plano, Coppell, and even the newer parts of Garland are pretty nice on the northern half of the Dallas area.

Thanks for the info. I do not know if I will be working downtown for sure - I'm just assuming that's where I'll get more money. I would rather not have that kind of commute!

There are a number of technology positions along 75 and DNT, you don't have to go into downtown. Of course that depends on your field too. I'm guessing that there are fewer HIGH dollar lawyers with offices in Plano, than there are downtown.

Both Dallas and Houston offer a wide variety of great neighborhood choices. If you're looking for the Houston suburbs, I would choose: Cypress, The Woodlands, Klein, Champions, or Kingwood if you like trees and forests, good schools and upper middle class neighborhoods.

We're favoring Denton. Is that a real hard commute to downtown Dallas or Fort Worth? What's a really nice town with low crime, family values, great schools, quality of life, etc.? Not looking for a crazy commute. We're looking for something around the 200K range; 3500+ sq ft. What about Houston? Is the quality of life better in the north or down in the suburbs of Houston? What are property taxes, heating or A/C bills, health insurance costs like? Are there daycares downtown? (have 3 y/o). Any info would be great. Thanks!
