Hi Texans,

I posted this exact same question about two years ago... my husband is considering a job with Stanley/BD in Farmers Branch, TX. I've never been to Texas, currently live in Raleigh, know nothing about Texas except it's a huge city and most people love it. Right?

5 kids (elementary/middle school age), 1 dog, want at least a 4 bedroom house, where to look? Would prefer to spend under $2000/mo in rent. Thanks, Texans!

I think you're going to miss Raleigh, but Dallas is a great city for young/middle families.

I would look in northwest Dallas, directly south of Farmer's Branch. Elementary schools are Withers or DeGoyler. Both are strong Dallas ISD schools and the middle school and high school (WT White) are among the best 3 neighborhood public schools in DISD- lots of involved parents. Homes will be in 75229. Stay east of Webb Chapel and north of Walnut Hill. You should be able to find a 2000sf 4 br ranch style home with a pretty big yard for $2k. Some of the neighborhoods have community pools such as Sparkman Club, Park Forrest, etc. very family friendly & good central location.

Look in Carrollton; but look for Hebron High School attendance zone.

Thank you!

I'm sure I will miss Raleigh, but supporting my husband in his career is something important to me. Plus my sister-in-law lives in The Colony, so I would be happy to be near family.
