New York does. You get one check back in the exact amount of deposit (say $1500) and then a second check with the interest earned ($2 or $3, depending on rate).

OP wait until you buy a home and the Bank sits on $6-12k in your Tax Escrow money yearly and never pays interest.

It's not that common, but the following are states that require security deposit refunds to be refunded with interest. CT, DC, FL, IL (if over 20 or 25 units), MD, MA, MN, NH, NJ, NM, NY (if over 6 units), ND, VA, PA.

Heck, you will be lucky to get much of back. Most apartments are bad about finding reasons to keep part or all of your deposit.

How about your experience?
Every renter in Texas should educated themselves regarding landlord-tenant laws. This is a good site for doing that. Austin Tenants’ Council/Tenant-Landlord Fact Sheets

And shady landlords love foreigners because they usually don't know their rights, regardless of status.

In texas, if you are suing your landlord for wrongfully keeping your deposit, can I charge them interest for the time they withheld it? Or only treble damages, attorney fees...?

Thank you-
