High schools are definitely an issue for us. Have two that will be entering soon. Current high school they would attend is just under 2,000. Wanted to stay around that population. Would consider private, but would prefer they be around students from their school in the neighborhood. I realize I'm being picky, but they're only in high school once.

You'll have to give on something: Commute, budget, or schools. Possibly more than one. I would recommend FND zoned to Plano schools, but those schools are huge. Why the concern about school size?

Some better thoughts than Heath:
1. Suburbs within 30-40 minutes of Love Field + strong schools
-Coppell
-Plano West
-Richardson (JJ Pearce or Richardson HS)

2. Buy a condo in HPISD near the high school. <10 min to Love. No yard but the Park Cities have dozens of fantastic parks.

3. Buy a $350k house in Midway Hollow or Sparkman Club in North Dallas and spend the rest of your budget on private schools. 10 min to Love and smack in the middle of top private schools.

It's not the bridge or I-30 that's the problem, it's the rush hour in Dallas.
Heath is a geographically compact community, living in "south Heath" doesn't really impact travel time to Dallas.

Heath is a terrific place to live and raise children but I agree with other posters that $500k-$600K is overkill.

Would echo this. I looked at homes in Sunnyvale (slightly closer to town), and half a mil can get you a McMansion out there if you wanted to.

We recently bought a home in Mclendon-Chisholm. My son will eventually go to Rockwall Heath HS. It's a beautiful school and ranked well. Homes in Heath and surrounding area don't seem to be cheap either. Spending 400-500kon a house seems to be the norm, but you get a lot of house for the $$. I can completely understand why you like Heath. It's got a great small town vibe, and Eddie Deen's BBQ off 205 is simply the best!!
