As a teenager in California, I used to love hitting the Del Taco late at night after partying. A few years ago, they finally opened one on Slaughter in south Austin. I couldn't wait to eat there, I even hyped it up to my friends and my family that it will blow away anything in Texas. (Just like In-and-Out was supposed to do)
Man, that was the sorriest fast food I've ever tried. I was so embarrassed to have recommended it to everyone.

I don't know what happened to their food. Maybe it only tastes good when you're drunk or stoned.

Taco Cabana is pretty good.
Taco Bell is disgusting.

Rosa's > Taco Cabana > Taco Bell

Some items and on certain days Taco Bell is decent...I just find it very inconsistent. Taco Cabana is good and just appears like better quality food for fast food.

Personally, Del Taco is better than both and even Taco Cabana. Taco Cabana is pretty good but found it to also be inconsistent.

When ever I need fresh tortillas I always buy a dozen of them from Taco Cabana instead of nearest grocery store.

Taco Cabana is more authentic Mexican. Decent option.

I'd even go as far as

Taco Casa > Taco Bell

but that might be pushing it.

Again? They came in the 70s/80s and left. Came back again pretty recently and I tried them when it was convenient (shopping at Timber Creek). Not what I remembered from those days at all, a major disappointment. As for fast food, leaving out Del Taco, I'd rank Taco Cabana as the best. Taco Bueno next. Taco Bell is no bueno! Taco Smell or Taco Hell. This is strictly speaking of fast food/drive through places.

No, I don't think it's a drunk or stoned thing, Hornraider. When it first came to Dallas when I was a kid, it was advertised as fresher (like In-N-Out), and it was. Fresh lettuce, fresh tomatoes, and delicious sour cream. It's changed. Just not the same product.

Where was Del Taco on Slaughter? There's a Taco Bueno on Slaughter just east of Mopac. Besides that, and Taco Bell and Rosa's are the only fast food Mexican places I know of on Slaughter .
