May be moving to Dallas area - different sort of question (Irving: travel, job)

We have friends in Irving, but I'm up and down about moving there. I would like to stay within 15 minutes of Irving, though.

I'd REALLY like to move somewhere with a small bit of land (like 1/4 to 1/2 acre), that isn't smack up against the neighbor's. My hubby has to have room to build a BIG garage, and I may like to have a horse, or a pool. :-)

I don't want a new house in a development. We really want to buy low, and no more than about a 1,800 sq. ft. house.

Hubby will be looking for work there next month (Feb.), but will not be looking in the city of Dallas. He's blue collar.

I've been on realtor.com for weeks, and I can't seem to get this kind of information. Are there communities you all can recommend that sound like this?

What kind of blue collar work does he not think he can find within the Dallas city limits?

Irving is in the middle of the DFW metroplex, and I honestly can't think of anywhere within 15 miles that would have large lots. You usually don't see that until you get out into the semi-rural areas. You might get lucky and be able to find something like that if you use a good Realtor...

Look south - Red Oak, Midlothian, Mansfield, Waxahachie.

You might also look into north of Flower Mound, i.e., Bartonville, Lantana, Copper Canyon, Argyle, Justin and Ponder in Denton County.

I'm not sure you are going to be able to have a horse on a half acre lot. Surely not on a quarter acre. I'm on a 1/3 acre and I'm still relatively close to my neighbor. No one would a appreciate a horse in that scenario, not my neighbors and not the horse. I've had one and while you might could house the horse, there isn't enough room to exercise one or ride it without going off property.

Ahh, gotcha. I am a recruiter in the commercial construction field, and I work with guys (and some gals!) who by and large are either blue collar or blue collar at heart (they just got to wear a tie for work that's all ) and many of my client firms are in Dallas, even downtown!
