Default Richardson, Plano &Allen

I am moving to Dallas in the next year and have a some questions on these areas.I love the community of Richardson except I would like a slightly newer home.I've read that in the past Plano had a reputation for being materialistic ,I don't want to offend anyone but that's what been said on this board.Since there are many newer communities popping up has it lost a little bit of that mentality.I really don't care so much for myself ,but that is a type of mentality I would like to avoid instilling in my children.Any info on Allen would be helpful as well.I will be working for DISD so commute is also something to take into consideration.Once again I do not wish to offend anyone I'm just trying to make an informed decision. Thanks for your help.

I have lived in Plano about 12 years now. Maybe I'm biased but I don't believe it to be any more materialistic than the rest of the United States. I consider Allen and Plano to be a lot alike. Hard to tell where one stops and the other begins. Commute is something to consider.

There are some newer homes over in the panhandle of Richardson. As for materialism, yeah, we've talked about that a lot. Some folks say ALL of Dallas north of the Trinity all the way up to Oklahoma is materialistic and there might be some truth to that. I don't know. Some say East Plano, East Allen, East McKinney (as in East of 75) is less materialistic than the West side of each of those cities. Some say west Frisco is more materialistic than east Frisco and Frisco, in general, is more materialistic than Little Elm or The Colony. I would just buy where you want to buy and not worry about it. If you really want to get away from it, look south of the Trinity River (downtown) and buy an older home in an established neighborhood.

We moved to West Plano.
I absolutely love the area. There may be materialism here and there, I pay no attention to it whatsoever. You will be able to meet all sorts of people, it is more diverse than most people will want you to believe.

Here's an article about updating homes in Richardson - these homes sound very nice to me:
