The older thought is to pay REAs 6% of selling price. Some of my friends have hired ones at 5%. However, there are many others that (on the web) ask for lower. Any thoughts on their commissions? I know you get what you pay for - but this is NOT always the case. Thoughts? Are the cheaper ones really that bad?

My guess would be that REA's are lowering their commissions due to a lack of sales. I know that's the case with my daughter-in-law.

I went through zip realty to buy my townhouse and we had a good experience. Not sure about the selling side.

Heh, I have been using that site to search for homes. What exactly did you think of them? How did their 20% commission back thing work? If nothing else I like using their site and the ability to save your favorite homes, ect.

Yes I also like their website. It's very user-friendly. I signed up with the ziprealty agent and was shown a lot of homes. We finally decided on a place and bought. The agent was very patient. We had no problems getting our 20% check. I do not recall how long it took but it didn't seem like it took too long. This was back in early 2005.

I don't know to be honest with you, it's probably negotiable.

All real estate fees are negotiable, that is correct.

I was looking for some numbers from some people who may have used the agents recently. One friend told me they had dropped to 4% from the usual 5-6%. Just wanted to confirm that.
