Hello! I'm sorry if someone has already addressed a similar question. I just accepted a job in South Oak Cliff. I will be moving to Dallas this summer. I've driven around the area where I'll be working and I would say I probably don't want to live there. My goal is to rent in a safe neighborhood, preferably where there are things I can walk to, for around $1000/month. Is North Oak Cliff a good place? I like the Lower Greenville/M Streets area but I don't want to commute too far (I really hate sitting in stopped freeway traffic...I know, maybe I shouldn't be moving to Dallas!). What are the best neighborhoods for apartments? Bishop Arts? Could I commute from East Dallas to here in a reasonable amount of time? Thank you so much for any input and I hope I don't sound too naive! I don't know Dallas very well.

Bishop Arts and North Oak Cliff in general are nice, and kind of similar to Lower Greenville.

Here's some places that may work:
Zang Triangle Apartments in Dallas, TX | Dallas Apartments for Rent
Apartment Rental in Dallas - Alexan Trinity Apartments
Live at Magnolia | Magnolia at Bishop Arts
Sylvan Thirty

You might check out downtown and the Cedars too.

I would say North Oakcliff is nice........I live there and enjoy it. I hear Desoto and Cedar Hill are nice as well. I would really advise commuting from East Dallas unless you plan to leave super early or could find a route that would let you avoid taking I-30.

I live in North Oak Cliff and find it to be great. Active community, places to walk to, great parks, etc. Feel free to message me for any specific questions.

You guys are awesome!! I will cross East Dallas off the list. I think I will definitely check out North Oak Cliff. I love the idea of being close to work. Dallas is so big it can be overwhelming. I appreciate your suggestions!

I second North Oak Cliff. There are also these complexes which have yet to be mentioned that you might want to check out:

Bell Bishop Arts: Bell Bishop Arts Dallas, TX

Alta West Commerce (which is technically West Dallas, next door to the Sylvan Thirty development);
Apartments in Dallas | Dallas Luxury Apartments for Rent | Alta West Commerce

ETA: Welcome to the neighborhood. PM if you have any specific questions.

I agree that your search should start with North Oak Cliff. I would also add downtown/Cedars to your possible landing spots because that commute would be a reverse commute. Not much traffic heading South in the morning and north in the afternoons.

I also say N. OC. You might be able to find what you're looking for in S. Grand Prairie or Duncanville as well.

Considering your stated criteria, I agree with the recommendations to look first at the North Oak Cliff area.

Commuting from/to the cities in southern Dallas County - DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Duncanville - wouldn't be that bad. They are suburbs, however, and are very suburban in character (family-oriented, not very walkable, nightlife is nonexistent).

Hope this helps and welcome to the area!
