Hello Dallas, I am considering a move to your city and would like some advice.

My situation: 30/M/Single. I work from home.

Which neighborhood(s) should I look in? I am looking to buy a property, preferably a (newer) condo or possibly a townhouse or small house. 1,500 sq.ft. or smaller. Budget is $1 million, but hoping to get something for $600k. I am looking for something “quiet” and safe. Walkable is a plus but not required. I don’t go out to bars often but I also don’t mind living near them. I prefer a diverse community with lots of young professionals.

Are there any Austinites in the forum who have moved to Dallas? What has your experience been and how would you compare the two cities?

I would look along the Katy Trail in Uptown. Buena Vista is a great street that is quieter & doesn't get a lot of traffic. Townhomes & condos on the west side of the street back up directly to the trail. At the upper end of your budget, you could look along Abbott Ave (west side of Katy Trail) in Highland Park or Northern Hills. Zip code for both is 75205.

If you're open to a house, Kessler Park (75208), M Streets (75206) or Devonshire (75209) all fit the bill except for age of home. These are hot neighborhoods with young professionals but largely known for their charming historic homes from the 1920-1940's. Most have been gut remodeled and look new on the inside but they aren't brand new. Kessler Park & the North Oak Cliff area are the closest thing to Austin in Dallas: winding hilly roads, fiercely independent & protective of local businesses, more casual than Uptown & North Dallas.
