Thoughts on Builders!

Looking at new construction and would like some feedback on the builders in the developments we are looking at.

CenTex
Highland Homes
K. Hovnanian Homes

Thanks!

I was the most impressed with Highland when I was considering a new build.

If "CenTex" is the same builder as Centex, they've been building for around 60 years (I think they got their start in the Dallas area). Fox & Jacobs was also in the same family. They were acquired by Pulte a few years ago. They were one of the 3 largest builders in the nation right before they were acquired by Pulte : 2009 - Builder 100 | Builder Magazine

This is correct. One of the real big production builders who filed bankruptcy and was taken over by another builder. Centex / Pulte has never had much of a reputation for quality.

Highland is best, KHov is good too. CenTex is not in their category, they used to be a lower tier builder on same level as Pulte and Lennar.

Centex still exists, they are a subsidiary of Pulte now. They are still building around the metroplex, I know they've got a development in Melissa right now, and I'm sure there's others.

They used to build homes up to the $350-400k mark, possibly higher, but after being acquired by Pulte, they are now being used to build homes under $250k while Pulte builds higher tier homes.

So, while there used to be some overlap between Centex, KHov, and Highland, now it's just KHov and Highland.

You used to be a builder and had no idea about one of the largest builders at the time?

Centex is a starter home builder for Pulte. They cant really be compared to Khov or Highland which are a higher end home. Its comparing apples to oranges.

With that said. Centex does a great job for a starter, basic home that is affordable.

Highland is one of the best builders in DFW. Have been for years.
Khov is a good builder as well.
