The food overall is better in Houston yes, but the ethnic food is almost identical in either city. Houston has a larger selection of Chinese food, Dallas has a larger selection of Korean food. Indian food is great in both.

The biggest difference between Dallas and Houston food wise is the local cuisine. Its much more defined in Houston and the restaurants are more open minded.

Also, youre dead wrong about the ethnic restaurants being catered to Americans. The biggest difference between Houston and Dallas is that in Dallas, only people of that ethnicity seem to eat their food. In Houston, everyone eats everything.
Nailed it.

Lion City Cafe.. NW corner of Parker & Custer. Really good Chinese/Malay/Singapore style cuisine, run by an old man... who everyone refers to as "Uncle". He alone is the host, wait staff and busser lol... so be patient as the wait could be long at times. My wife being a Singaporean has been ecstatic... having found this place.

Also no plastic... cash only!

Chinese food pales in comparison to what you find in SoCal.

Mr. Wok has some good dishes, particularly their Peking Duck. Kirin Court has the best dim sum in the area, and I really enjoyed their New Year's Special Dinner I went to this year. There are a handful of restaurants in the shopping center 99 Ranch is in that are very authentic, the Sczechuan restaurant in particular.

I can't remember the name of it, but there is a dumpling place in the Chinatown off Greenville that is not bad. King's Noodles will make a tasty bowl of beef noodle soup as well.

Very early and very late are the best times to take walks in the summer here. The worst mornings are in the 80s by 8:00 am, and the heat can linger long after the sun goes down.

Somehow the title of this thread reminded me of the "hows your chinese food" dialog scene in the movie "My cousin Vinny" :

Yao Fuzi is very good, but also quite expensive.

I like Rice Pot Express in Cross Roads... I haven't tried the other outlets for Rice Pot Express.

Orange Chicken with White Meat.... YUM

I just tried JS Chen's dimsum on Legacy and it was veryyyy meh. Is there a better dimsum place?

Also, what are the good chinese grocery in west plano? I'm looking at homes near brinker elementary and 99 ranch is like 15 minutes away.

We have Asian friends that drive in about once a month for the place from Missouri.

They're from Cali as well, so it might be right up your alley. Good luck!

I see a lot of places that advertise "New York Style" Chinese food. Personally, I'd rather have China Style Chinese food, but...maybe that's just me.
