Good luck figuring it out. I couldn't figure it out via the website or multiple other forums. And I emailed TXDOT via the website and never got a response.

I think in this case you need a new inspection before registration.

I would give it a try to renew online and see what happens, let us know. Supposedly the inspection information is now in a central system and you need a current inspection to register the car. When the system is fully operational you will need the inspection to be done no more than 90 days prior to renewing registration.

Go get your car inspected tomorrow or Saturday worst. Most likely the inspection station will remove your old inspection sticker.

Afterwards get on the TX.gov webpage and find the auto registration page and order your new registration sticker. It'll be in our hands within a week.

Driving around without an inspection sticker per se, assuming your car actually passed inspection, with only your old registration sticker is OK.

There is no grace period on inspection stickers. I'd get that done ASAP.

Do it the first day of the next month and risk of being ticketed is low and there traditionally has been no penalty for doing so. I think the transition period is not well thought out. I have New Years with two years to inspect it as traditionally has been the case. Will see what happens when I get the registration renewal but if I can renew without inspecting it a year early I will do,so.

Since your vehicle inspection expires prior to the vehicle registration you will need to get your vehicle inspected before renewing your registration online, by mail or in person. When renewing the registration the tax office will check and confirm the vehicle inspection DB before they issue you a new sticker.

Due to recent changes in law, the inspection now expires the same day the registration expires. Don't worry about the sticker; its expiration has no effect. You must get the vehicle inspected before renewing registration. The inspector will remove the old sticker and won't put on a new one. When you get your registration sticker, pull off the old one and put the new one at the bottom. In future years, you have a 90 day window for the inspection, ending at the end of August. You can get the inspection done in June, July, or August.

I just renewed my registration without the inspection which is due this month. I ask about my new car whose registration is annual but inspection not required under the old sum for a year after registration is due. There must be either confusion on the part of some, providers or some transition rules for the next year or so.

New cars have a 2year window on inspections. That hasn't changed.
