I'm planning a visit trip to Plano and Dallas this labor day week with my family and I need suggestions on where to go. I'm playing to spend all of Saturday in Plano (as that's where I plan to live) and a whole day in the whole Dallas area. My goal is to get a good understand of what it's like to live in West Plano and the things I can do around the area.

Things we like to do
-Crafty stores. Think of a street with boutique stores
-outdoor park/nature
-Shopping! Outlets are a plus, but would also like other shopping malls

We want to avoid very touristy stuff, but more focus on things we can go more than once a year. Also, any food places that's a must try?

Thoughts? Also, anybody know if shops are legacy is worth checking out?

I wouldn't bother with the Shops. I love the Arboretum and go with the grandkids every other month, or so. The Children's Garden is amazing and so much fun.

None of these are in Plano, but-
Crafty/boutique stores- check out Bishop Arts District in Dallas or historic downtown McKinney Square

Outdoor park/nature - Dallas Arboretum, White Rock Lake (Arboretum is at one edge of it), Cedar Hill State Park/ Joe Pool Lake

Malls- NorthPark Mall in Dallas is probably one of the top 5 malls in the world for stores + experience, and has a rotating world-class modern art collection on display in the cooridors instead of typical mall kiosks.

For food, Mi Cocina is a Dallas Tex-Mex institution and there is one at Lakeside in West Plano. Depending on where you go in Dallas, we can make a recommendation there too.

Granted, it gets bonus points for not having a Hot Topic but top 5 mall experience in the entire world?
If you consider Texas your entire world, then I guess that ranking holds up.
