What was old Frisco/Mckinney Tx like? (early 2000s/90s) (Plano: big house, neighborhoods)

What was these towns like. Was there anything interesting that's not there anymore

I remember living in Plano back in the late 80s early 90s, man oh man has it changed. Frisco and Mckinney were ghost towns back then, not much going on.

Frisco didn't really exist in the early 90's. In 1986, we moved to Plano, and Plano basically ended at Legacy Drive, Deerfield was the most northern development.

McKinney has been around longer than Plano or Frisco, the small downtown area and surrounding neighborhood (now East McKinney) were all there back then, but the downtown area has been revamped significantly. Stonebridge Ranch started selling homes in 1988 I think, somewhere around there, but it wasn't nearly the size it is now obviously.

I lived on 4012 Bonita Dr. I remember being surrounded by empty fields for many years, and then they slowly started development of more neighborhoods. I remember a really big house, he had some acreage , and a small plane behind our neighborhood heading down Coit rd towards McDermott Rd.

Even by Coit and Hedgecox rd, there was nothing but empty fields and stop signs. Man oh man the memories. Me and my classmates were the first ones to enter Robinson Middle School when it was first built.

Basically all of the Frisco , McKinney, and Plano were just homes and lots of fields of land.

The big mall was just starting when I moved to north Plano in 2000. There was nothing there in either direction of note except for the liquor stores once you get closer to Lewisville, on the Collin/Denton county borders. Preston Road went up that way, but it was a much smaller road (55 mph speed limit past Legacy) that just kept going north all the way to 380 I think. It was a big empty diamond interchange, with grass in the middle. I think there were some big car dealerships there too.

I competed in TAAF Swimming back in the late 1980s. We hated going to Frisco for swim meets because their pool was small and really old. McKinney had just built their new natatorium, which we loved!

My husband delivered Yellow Pages books in 1997, and he has a great story about delivering a book to April's Modeling Studio in Frisco. (The employees thought he was a customer!)

I moved to Prosper in 1989 and we had to shop in Plano for groceries for a few years until the first grocery store, a Brookshire's, was built at Main/Preston in Frisco. I think the Albertson's at Preston/Stonebrook was next, and then the Kroger right across from the Albertsons. 121/Preston was a 4-way stop for a few years as well. And of course Preston was one lane each way in Frisco.

I was learning to drive when the DNT was being built in Plano/Frisco (2000). I think it ended around Legacy or 121 at that time.

I moved to Plano in 1990. I remember everything north of Legacy and west of Midway being "in the country." I had a friend that moved to McKinney in the mid-90s and it seemed like it took forever driving through the country to get to his house. As far as interesting goes, there was a brothel (The Dollhouse if I remember correctly) where Stonebriar mall is now. Some old timers I've spoke to over the years tell me that was one of many that were along 121 back in the day. Also, Belz outlet mall (121/75) closed in the late 80s but that building still stood and wasn't all overrun with weeds, graffiti, etc. back in 90.

They had a security guard working there for years... must have been the easiest job in the world. Eventually they boarded it all up for over a decade, they finally bulldozed it about two years ago.
