Tornados
My family and I are talking about relocting to Texas at the end of the year. I was doing research online, and the thing that most scres me are the tornados. We are looking to live either in Irving, or Dallas, and I read that this area is the tail end of tornado alley. Can anyone tell me the truth(stats) about the tornados there in dallas, or irving? We are so done with the below zero temps here in chicago, and the cost of living here is so high. Ive lived here all my life, we tryed san diego but the cost of living is triple than here in chicago. My friend family live there in irving, and we were told its a great place to live. And the houses there are so cheap compared to here. any information would be greatly apreciated.

Don't worry about it. You stood as much chance of a tornado in Chicago as you will here. I lived in Chicago for 9 years and there was one that came through and wiped out some town about an hour outside of Chicago (west I think). I've been in Texas for almost 14 and there's been one bad one in Ft. Worth. There are some other wind and hail concerns you might have, but IMO fear of a tornado is lower down on the list.

Here's the National Weather Storm Site where you can look up all historical data for any given state/county (in this case Dallas County, TX) and what type of storm.
NCDC Storm Events-Select State
As far as Irving, the southern area of Irving (see realtor.com for zip 75062) has homes ranging from very low-end to very high-end, while the Las Colinas area (zips 75038 & 75039) is in the northern area of Irving with medium to very high-end homes and the Valley Ranch area (75063) is in the northernmost part of Irving, again with medium to very high-end homes as well.
I'd also recommend Coppell ISD and/or Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD (CFBISD) over Irving ISD if you have school-age children. Las Colinas is covered by both Irving ISD and CFBISD, depending on where the house is, while Valley Ranch is covered by Coppell ISD & CFBISD, again, depending on where the house is located. All other parts of Irving are covered by Irving ISD, I think. You can google these ISD's which will show the area boundaries serviced by each school district.
Good luck with your move and welcome to Texas!

Thank you for your input and advice. Yes I have three girls 1 who will be in her 2nd year of high school nest year and one who is in 3rd and one in 4th grade. They are so excited to move in texas, they seem to think that Texas is full of cowboys, lol... too much TV I guess. Well I guess your right a threat of a tornado can happen anywhere, last year I swear one came to des plaines, , they called it a micro burst! Yeah Micro burst a tree in my house and down power lines and trees down, no power for 7 days, a micro burst! It was so bad that day me and my kids were in the tub....LOLBut a good fresh start for me and my family in texas is a goal I will meet. I am currently looking for a job before I get there, seems like a smart thing to do. but the houses are huge that I have seen online. everything is bigger in texas I guess..lol. But the house I do get will have a basement, Just incase.

Yes, basements would be nice... but none here to speak of! The soil here just won't support it! Back to the bathtub for you, I'm afraid!
Also, one of the the major mistakes people moving here do is get more square footage than they can really afford to maintain, i.e., property taxes and heating and cooling... just because the housing prices are lower. Be cautious and not overbuy.

LoL... that's what we'd call a Texas-size bathtub!
Here's a few sites that you might want to look at... and since the girls thinks it's western here... here's a site for Ft. Worth they'll probably enjoy, too.
Welcome to Dallas!

I can empathize with you. We are in Bolingbrook, IL and relocating ourselves. I too am sick and tired of the weather. My husband has been working in Plano for quite a while and I have been left behind to shovel the snow. Can't wait to soak up the Texas sunshine! Good luck with your moving plans.
