I would say no to Grand Prairie, unless it's the area that's connected to Mansfield. The Grand Prairie ISD is not a good school district, desire the buzz about "schools of choice."

Renting in Irving isn't the worst idea around: in regular traffic a 40min drive gets you anywhere in the greater DFW area (b/c really easy highway access). Rush hour is hugely dependent on whether you're with or against flow.

Irving schools are "meh," but you can do well if your students are willing to bust their butts.

Look up Colin Powell Elementary and Ronald Reagan Middle School and get back to me. These schools are outside of that area. Tons of value in that area with a pretty strong elementary school.

Disclaimer: I do not and have never lived in GP. It's quite funny how people generalize or say things that simply aren't true when it comes to the Southern burbs.

I know a gal who went to South Grand Prairie, was tracked high, and got a better education than some of the private-school folks I knew.

I *taught* many people from that same school at Tarrant Southeast, and they could barely form a coherent paragraph.

If you live in GP, fight like a BANSHEE to have your kid tracked to the high program and kept there, whether or not he/she winds up bringing home C- s.
