This is my first post here so hello to all. My wife and I are moving to Dallas because she is getting an opportunity there. I had a couple of questions in mind regarding the same

This is the first time we are traveling to US so is it difficult to get accommodation for the first timers with no credit history n all. Also can we approach any available place or is it better to stick to places with Indian population.

I am sure this will be a peculiar one,,,will I be able play poker before I finish formalities required for an L2 visa holder to work like ead etc.

After i get ead sorted will i face dificulty getting a job? I have an MBA in finance with 7 years of exp in equity research outsourcing and a couple of months of exp in corporate finance

No offense meant but being a Sikh will I attract any unwanted and misguided attention?

Thanks in advance for responses

Dallas has over 500,000 Indians. You will have no problems being Sikh or wearing a turban. Especially living in Valley Ranch/Coppell, Plano/Frisco/Allen/McKinney (where the areas are predominantly middle class/upper middle class desis), you will have absolutely no issues.

I do not think you will need credit history to rent an apartment but they might look for rental history. Not having rental history is not a problem in general but you may be asked to put in more deposit initially.

Oye Paaji, Sat Sri Akaal. There are plenty of Indians living in the DFW area and your transition to Dallas should go very smooth. Kindly keep in mind your wife's work location when deciding a place to rent. The DFW area is vast and living in a place close to work will really help. Welcome to Dallas!!

Will your wife be on an H1B visa? If so, you will be on an H4 visa which will not allow you to legally seek employment.

He mentioned L2 visa, which is a dependent of L1 visa holder (intra-company transfer). L2 visa holders are allowed employment.

You wont be alone.

Dallas is the most Indiatasitic place Ive ever lived including cities like LA and Houston. Doesnt matter where you are from in India, you will find many, many other people to make friends with. Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, or whatever, youll be fine.

If no one said this "Welcome to Dallas". If you are first timer, I would stay close to work. You can use google near by future to locate apts...For ex. If you are working for Verizon (https://www.google.com/maps/place/22...fb7d518b57663d), type in Verizon physical location in the google, in the near by...type apts. That should list all apts by how many miles. Call the apts (they may ask extra deposit if you are first timer), ask for bus & train (DARTs) services, schools, etc..Stay away from cheap apts/ghetto neighborhoods, etc. Always pick a neighborhood with high greatschool ratings for your kids. There are several gurudwara's (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q...aras+in+dallas) who can assist you and your family get situated as well..
