Real Estate Title Company Jobs in Dallas?
Hello. This is my wife's screen name, she has posted a few threads about teaching jobs.
Anyway, we are moving to Dallas this spring, and I am looking for a job with a title company. I have three years of exerience in the industry, on the production side. (2 years as a Title Searcher, 1 year as a Title Examiner.)
I just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about job prospects for me in Dallas. (what firms are hiring, who are some contact people at those firms, etc.)
Thanks!
Zak

Check out these postings from Indeed.com. You also might post your resume on Monster.com, Dice.com, HotJobs.com and CareerBuilders.com (keep it current by updating weekly or even daily) if you haven't already.

Thanks!
Thanks for the tip, I have searched Monster but never posted my resume, that is a good idea.
Does anyone have any specific info besides the job boards? I have scoured the job boards and the problem is that there is tons of competition when they post an opening. I was just wondering if anyone has any inside knowledge about title companies in Dallas hiring, but they haven't posted the openings online.
Thanks! I can't wait to come down there, I am in South Bend, Indiana and it is below zero wind chill today!

title jobs
Hello there and welcome to Texas! I am a realtor and I used to work for title companies for 8 years. I was an abstractor, then a closer/underwriter, and then I worked in the business development end of it before I became a realtor. Ok, so I had the same issues as you about finding a good job lead via the search engines. So, I eventually went low-tech and had success! I went on Yahoo and did a yellow page search for all title companies within a 10 mile range of my location since I didn't want a long commute. Then I called each title company and asked the receptionist for their fax number. I also asked her who I should put the "Attn:" to for resumes on the cover sheet. I faxed out 10 resumes and got one call immediately and 2 more calls within the next few weeks. I will say that if you research titles, it is certainly different here from where I am from (Shreveport, La.) Most title companies have a title plant and very few abstracts are done at the actual county courthouse. So, you may want to ask the receptionist some pointed questions as to the job you are looking for and where you should actually send the resume. Another option is to go from within your current title company--for instance, if you're underwritten by First American, which owns Republic Title here then ask someone to make a call to the right folks here. There are usually around 5 big underwriters nationwide: First American, United General, Fidelity, Chicago, and Lawyers. Figure out whom you are already affiliated with and work it from the inside out! hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice
That is great advice, I really appreciate it!
That is similar to what I was planning to do, but I like the idea of finding the names of who to send the resume to instead of sending them out blindly like I was going to.
I think the Abstract process in Dallas will be similar to what I have done in Indiana. We get most of our data from the title plant, not the courthouses.
I am very good at examining, but not good at playing the job search game, and I am worried that they won't take me seriously because I am not local. It was very hard to get a job moving from Chicago to South Bend, Indiana, now I am trying to move from South Bend to Dallas, where I can't interview on two days notice.
I am going to be in the area the first week of March, and I am going to try to get a lot of interviews lined up the week I am there. In my cover letter I am being specific about when I am moving to Dallas, April 1st, so hopefully they will see that I am really moving there.

Check with homebuilders too. They typically have their own title company. Also, as long as you have the contact for the right person, you may want to email the resume instead of fax so they can forward it easier to someone else.
Good luck,
Naima

With the jobless rate at the highest it's been in the last four years... and with large companies currently laying off right here in this area... it's going to start getting pretty hard for everyone... if it hasn't already... for even the locals to find opportunities, unfortunately.
Also, understand that to ask people to pass on particular names of people within a company, you're asking them for propriety information... which all of us have signed forms against giving out... so unless you know someone that knows someone... that's not likely to happen. So, your best bet is to still utilize all the search options available because the job market is really getting tight... even here.

would be careful about posting resume on Monster.com and some other sites
have read that their databases have been infiltrated and identity info on resumes has been stolen
