Congratulations! What a wonderful time for you and your family!

I live in Southlake. I do not agree with what most of you are saying. Southlake is home to many wonderful people. If "new" money means you actually worked for your house and car-then I am proud to be a newbie!
HP is a place where people are not friendly because they have had the same family friends and legacy issues for a hundred years. Southlake is more transient. The average time a family actually lives in Southlake is a litttle under 5 years. People always want to make friends as most people are away from their extended families.
I take my hubby to the airport on Monday am and pick him up on Thursday pm. I get there in 10 minutes w/zero traffic.
BTW- University Park and Highland Park are not the same place. People who call HP home will be quick to correct you if you make that mistake.

Kimberland--don't mean to dispute why you like Southlake but speaking as one who lives fairly close to there and drives to DFW airport a lot myself at a variety of times/days...
there might be LIGHT traffic or no-problem traffic but ZERO traffic????
what time are you going--I assume you are using maybe 1709/114 and going in the north entrance...

How is this a positive? This is one of the main reason I dislike the suburbs (although I live there)...especially the newer areas. WHo wants to be in an area where you neighbors change out every few years...there no "community" in that.
To the OP...Congrats on your new home!!! HP is beautiful, though I have to admit I chuckled a little about you taking the "smaller" home at 5000 sq ft. But seriously, good for you for working hard to get to such a financial place. I am sure you will be happy in your new abode!!!

I live off of Dove and 114. I take 114 to the airport at 7:45 am on Monday and later in the evening on Thursday. I have never had a problem.
As for you PlanoGirl- It is better to live in a place where new people come often because that means people are welcoming to newbies. There is none of that HP snobbery. Most of us in Southlake are former professionals, married to highly successful men, staying at home and raising our kids. It is a wonderful place to live!

you might be on 114 at that time--but you can't say there is no traffic--there is plenty of traffic--it just moves fairly smoothly most of the time...but it is not moving that fast--I have been on 121 and 114 at that time and it is going usually less than 20 MPH

Does Southlake get overhead airplane traffic being so close to the airport?

there are some parts of Southlake that definitely do get overhead plane noise--and there are some parts that don't
the one development that I know does because we were looking at homes there when planes were flying over is Kirkland Hollow--which is north of 114--the area around north Dove rd also gets plane noise--
because DFW uses a N/S flight pattern most of the time --incoming from the north and taking off to the south--I think...
the north areas around 114 w get the most --trophy club gets that noise as well I think
but I really don't notice it that much when we are shopping at Grapevine Mills and are out in the parking lot--that is northeast of the airport
We live in Bedford which is pretty much directly west of the airport and have little noise from planes at all...

Let me clarify...as the OP of this thread...we did choose UP over HP. We saw homes in both, liked both areas, actually chose an older home in UP over a newer one in HP...opinions so far:
LOVE IT
The people here are very very nice. I would venture to say they are nicer than any place we have ever lived. They are also more down to earth than the neighbors we had in Plano when we lived there about 10 years ago (I don't say this with any ill intent..I love Plano, have lots of friends there, would have happily moved there again). Everyone is very neighborly. It feels a bit reminiscent of the 1950's--kids bicycling down the street, the old homes and big trees, the charm, lemonade stands. Heck, 4 neighbors came to introduce themselves the day we moved in and brought treats. I'll keep you all posted....
