This project was stuck in limbo between City Hall and Scott Beck for ages. I thought it would last a few more years. I am happy to learn that I was wrong.

Pre-demolition and environment review has started. It won't be long until the wrecking ball comes along.

The Dallas Business Journal has the full story.

Beck Ventures also is in the process of creating a tree farm by pruning back the roots of certain trees to ready them for being moved, he said.

It's a shame that VVM didn't last. It used to be really nice back in the 1980s...

shopping malls are eyesores... the model of the enclosed concrete box with an ocean of sterile parking around is over.

Willow Bend is about to start a major "opening" redesign to avoid this curse. It has recovered nicely and has a good mix of tenants, adding furniture stores too,.. but the outside of it is still insanely ugly and disconnected from the neighborhood.

Stonebriar mall is next to decline... it is fully leased now, but it already looks sad with its outdated architecture, tiring and confusing layout and sterile endless parking.

Stonebriar is Terminal C. It needs gates.

It's so crazy that they built 3 shopping malls [Galleria, Valley View, Prestonwood] in the same area.

Such a weird mall where about half the stores were art galleries. But sad to see it go, as I used to love going to their super cheap AMC theater. You could pay 5-6 bucks hardly anyone would be in the theater.

when those things were built, that's where the hot growth was... it continued moving north (now reaching Legacy) leaving behind the area around galleria very depressed for several years.. lots of empty office buildings and failed retail. Now occupancy is up again in the area, more restaurants and retail have returned... let's see if it holds up.

They should have turned it into a mall that catered to the Hispanic community. There is a large concentration of Hispanics not too far from there and that could have been one way to salvage it.

It used to be a "normal" mall. The art galleries came later, after the decline. I've also enjoyed the AMC, super affordable!
