I know I'm late to the game but maybe this will help others trying to decide about north hills. There is very little required parental involvement. They no longer have a required number of hours, and have to beg parents to participate. I wish there was more parent support, to be honest. But those of us who do volunteer when we can (and I work full time) are passionate about our school and our kids.

I have a kiddo I'm primary, middle and high school, and we are entering our fourth year at NHP. We live in an exemplary district with schools within walking distance to our home, but once we won the lottery at NHP we didn't hesitate to make the switch. I should also mention that the kids were in a private school before we moved to this neighborhood and I still feel like, of all options (private, public and charter) that this is a huge opportunity for the kids.

Our oldest joined the art and language trip this past spring and traveled with classmates to Paris, Rome, Barcelona and London. Our youngest has dyslexia and has made incredible strides with the support of her teachers and the School's free tutoring and bi-weekly reading specialist on staff.

In all, it's always worth applying to. And if you make it in, congratulations! I know several families who try for years (we got lucky and made it in the first year)
