Hi, OP. I hope you read my post... but I understand if you choose not to come back to your thread because I've read a few very ignorant and disturbing posts.

Anyhow, I understand your situation and don't find your quest to be unrealistic. I am a black woman married to a white man. We have 2 beautiful biracial girls. We, too, were recently on the hunt for a house with great schools, in a diverse community. We settled on looking at Grapevine and Coppell, mostly because it has A++ schools. Ultimately, for many reasons, we ended up in North Irving (specifically La Villita) and couldn't be happier!! No, the schools aren't on par with Coppell or Grapevine (on forums, school rating sites, etc) but they are good schools... good, diverse schools. And that IMO was something the Coppell schools lacked. I love our neighborhood because everyday (yes, everyday!) you will find many people out and about walking/running around the lake, kids playing at the park. My daughter has already made several little friends (white, black, Indian, Asian). The houses is this neighborhood are in your budget, close to the airport and major highways, but may be a bit smaller than 4000 sq t. Anyhow, pm if you would like.

Why could you care less about his questions? He never said he had "struggles" he was clear and open from the beginning that he's upper middle class but still seeks diversity.

What's wrong with that?

He asked where he and his family would fit in the best.

Clearly based on some of the responses on here not next door to many of you.

Does he have to be poor to get your sympathy??

I'm also relocating to the area, and also came here for advice and this thread is SUPER DISTURBING to me.

We're a white family, but we are young, progressive, and see nothing wrong with this posters comments.

I wish I knew where these people lived so I can avoid them!!

I had to work hard not to say something stronger above.

I'm a fiscally conservative socially liberal 52yo white guy - just old enough to remember whites only and blacks only water fountains and such.

There are nuts and verbal bomb throwers everywhere. [mod cut]

I'm white and married to an Asian husband (Vietnamese) and we've lived in Frisco the last 8 years and neither of us has ever felt out of place or uncomfortable. I have a 2.5 year old, and while she looks white and most people probably don't realize she's mixed race, my husband has never had any weird or uncomfortable encounters when he's taken her out by himself. While Frisco is too far from your workplace to recommend to you as a viable option, I feel like citizen reaction to mixed race couples would be on par with what you would find in Coppell and Flower Mound. In other words, I don't think it will be an issue.

My daughter's daycare is quite diverse. There are kids that are Indian, black, Chinese, and white in her class. There is also one child that is mixed black/white.

If you can "fit in" as far as affording the housing/lifestyle of the area and have your kids involved in sports or church activities, I think you'll be fine.

Wow. I just joined the site because my husband is in Dallas today on a job interview and I was looking to learn more about the city and suburbs.

I don't think you should shame the man asking for information based on his family's background. Heck we're catholic and I want to know where the catholic's live. It's normal for people to move to the area and seek out communities that make them feel comfortable.

If people write in all the time and ask these questions, then yes, it's based on what we're seeing through our research of the area, don't get angry. I noticed the schools had a small african-american population too. It surprised me. If I were in his shoes, I would ask those same questions.

To the original poster we have two little girls who are 3 and 8 and would love to meet you guys and hang out and get to know the area together if we both wind up there!!

Everywhere. Seriously, there are dozens of Catholic Churches in DFW that are packed every week and have extremely active ministries. A lot of the larger cities (Plano, Richardson, etc) have multiple Catholic Churches as well. You should be able to find the right one for you. There are also quite a few that cater towards those with different nationalities/languages.

I don't understand why people ask questions like these then are shocked when the conversation veers into a race/diversity question. I think getting honest ( and in some instances off topic) responses from your potential neighbors gives one a pretty good idea of the attitues of people they will be living among on a daily basis. This IS the internet after all, opinions are a dime a dozen, everyone has one.

If the OP wants more factual information and less opinion and debate i think he would be better served on the City-Data pages for the specific cities he's interested in. There he could find specific data on how many mixed race families live where without dealing with the opinionated nature of an internet thread. They even have maps detailing neighborhoods which he can use to see the proximity of one place to another.

Asking for opinions only to dismiss them later is in bad taste and is probably what has rubbed some the wrong way.
