I currently live in North Arlington, and work in Downtown Dallas. The commute is about 20/30 minutes which isn't that bad. I would consider a 40/50 minute commute from any area west of Downtown Dallas to be in an area with good school ratings, as I have a 3 and 8 year old. Home prices seem to be over priced at this time, but we are thinking that $350K should be able to get us in a decent area.

I don't think it exists. Maybe in the Mt Auburn school zone? Then you could put your kids at either Mata Montessori, or at the new SOLAR prep school for girls. I'm otherwise at a loss though, unless you want a condo instead of a house.

I'd look in Richardson.

What about south Arlington? The neighborhoods zoned to Martin HS have great K-12 schools and are well within your budget.

I was about to suggest finding a way into Fort Worth Paschal for schools but that does not work with a commute to DTD.

My daughter played club and high school volleyball with and against a couple of girls who went to Arlington Martin. They really liked the school and it's rates very nicely. Martin and it's feeders might be worth a look. I'm really not sure if it's possible to live in the district and make it to DTD in 40/50, I think it might be.

ETA - Beaten to the punch by TC-80 again!

I didn't see the west of DTD part. Perhaps the Grapevine ISD part of Euless.

Richardson, zip code 75082 puts you 40-50 minutes from DTD and is zone to Plano schools. Not a lot of homes, but you should be able to find something.

If you can work flexible schedule to avoid traffic (9am or after in the morning, 6:30pm after in the evening), I recommend Flower Mound and Highland Village areas.

Why do you want to be west of downtown? I think you'd have better luck and find better options if you were considering areas that are north of downtown. You can definitely find some within a 40-50min commute timeframe as well.

Grapevine proper has houses in that price range, too.
