Hi everyone! Just wondering what the public transportation situation is when commuting from Denton to Dallas. Are there busses, trains, or both? If so what towns in Denton are these located in and is it more costly than driving? I'm asking to see if it's possible for my wife and I to stay a 1 car family for awhile if the commute is doable.

You mean in the entire county? I live in Little Elm and there is no public transportation anywhere near here.

Where in Denton to where in Dallas?
Their A Train does link up with the DART Rail, but it would make for a long commute if you were headed to downtown Dallas.

Depending on where in Denton to where in Dallas it is possibly do-able but at a great expense to your family timewise.

Type "Denton Transit" into Google.

The first result is the DCTA website, which has everything you want to know.

It is 1hr 20min from Downtown Denton to Downtown Dallas (West End Station, add 2min for each Downtown Station)

A-Train Schedule

DART Green Line Schedule

DART Route Map

A-Train Route Map

It is Approx. 40mi from Downtown Denton to Downtown Dallas with an average rush hour commute of 1hr 15min. However, with all the construction along IH-35 from Denton to Dallas the commute can easily push 1.5-2hrs on some days

You would need a regional Day Pass (if you don't ride every day) and those are $10 for as many rides as you want that day. (Some employers have discounts through DART so you may want to look into that as well)

Regional Monthly Passes are $160.00

DART Fares
(Break even is 4/week with the day pass)

Annual Passes are $1600
<-- You have to buy in person for this one

Honestly, if you can get to the A-Train Station quickly (10-15 minutes) and your office is located within relative walking distance to any DART line then this would be your best option (especially for the time 35 is under construction)

Use Train 5909 as the starting point on the A-Train: leaves Downtown Denton at 6:32am

Arrives at Trinity Mills to Transfer to Green Line at 7:04am

Green Line Arrives at 7:14am

Green Line arrives at West End at 7:52am

From 6:32am to 7:52am is 1 hour and 20 minutes

However, most layovers at Trinity Mills are less than the 10 minute gap for this one therefore, depending on the train you caught, it could only be 1hr and 10 minutes.
