Default What do these places in dallas mean?

this might be a dumb question but is Plano a city near Dallas? And when people say they live in Dallas but also live in Oaklawn, Tollway or Frankford what does that mean?

sorry, i might be moving there from CA and I just want to know everything I can know about Dallas. I'm not sure which part of Dallas my boyfriend's job would be.

Plano is a suburb of Dallas. Oaklawn is a neighborhood. Tollway is a road, Tollway and Frankfurt is an area off the Tollway.

I found Wikipedia's descriptions of neighborhoods helpful in getting oriented when I moved here.

You might want to get a map or maybe find a map web site. I use Yellow Pages, White Pages, Maps, and more - Switchboard.com and then there is a tab at the top for "Maps and Directions" - click that and you can put an address in and it will map it for you. If you want to know the distance between two places click "Directions" and it will ask fot the two places. You can put in city names or specific addresses.

It's not perfect. I think Yahoo has a mapping service as well.

How is Plano a suburb of Dallas if it's not even in the same county? I'm sure there's a reason, but I don't get it.

Why would they need to be in the same county?

ETA - some of the city of Dallas is in Collin County.

That's why I asked because I didn't know. Thanks for your question to my question.

The Dallas metropolitan area is huge and covers several counties. There are distant suburbs where the people living there are physically closer to the State of Oklahoma than to downtown Dallas. New York City has suburbs that aren't even in the same state so a big city like Dallas having suburbs in adjacent counties shouldn't be a surprise.
