Hiya,

A little about myself. I moved from Joburg to Rhode Island for an excellent opportunity two years ago. The weather and I do not agree as I am not accustomed to this cold. I have always wanted to live in Dallas and that is where I am transferring this January.

I am seeking a nice neighborhood and nice school system. Here is my info:

- I will be working at DFW so any thing around there within a 30 minute drive is acceptable.
- Housing: $300K (but would be happy if I find a nice place cheaper).
- School: Twin girls, age 6, 2nd grade

For demographics, I am black but I much prefer white neighborhoods if there are any.

Please, your advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

Assume your work is at or near DFW airport.

Either Grapevine or HEB (Hurst-Euless-Bedford) areas. HEB more likely to have houses in your price range.

Thank you. I will be working at DFW so I will look into these areas.

Are there any others?

I forgot to add...Are there good daycares that one can recommend near DFW? Preferably where a school bus can drop them off after school.

Most of the day cares will pick up kids from the nearby school (2-3 mile radius) so first you need to find out the place you will live and in turn the schools and then look for day care which is close to the school.

I would second Grapevine. The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD or Carroll ISD are strong and you should be able to find a house in your budget, although it will be older. Keep in mind that city boundaries are not the same as school boundaries. Parts of Grapevine (and other cities) can be in multiple school districts.

Like someone else mentioned, daycares do pick up kids from school (generally up to age 12) but you will need to know your school before choosing a daycare. Otherwise you might run into issues of the daycare not picking up from your school. You should also look at any after-school programs offered at your elementary. There might be other options besides daycare.

DFW airport. Not DFW. We have no white neighborhoods. The DFW area is very diverse and I love that about DFW (which is what we call the metro area now the airport which we call the DFW airport)

I agree that Grapevine would be great. Avoid Timberline Elementary, but the rest of the GCISD schools are excellent.
The majority of GCISD is white, although there are many other races represented. Your commute to DFW Airport would be mere minutes, and wouldn't even require getting on the freeway.

HEB comes to mind first---Hurst Euless Bedford...
Maybe Keller ISD, NW ISD areas which can cover multiple cities.
Perhaps Flower Mound or Coppell.

No way would I recommend NW ISD with a commute to DFW Airport. Too much traffic!

Coppell is highly unlikely to have anything in that price range, and if there is one, there will be a bidding war for it.
