We are looking to replace our 20+ year old air conditioning and heating system and received multiple quotes from one of the local installer. It seems very exorbitant. Here are the quotes he provided for different SEER class. This will be a replacement of downstairs and upstairs unit. We are planning on getting multiple quotes and this is just the first contractor we spoke to. Can you please let me know your thoughts if you have done this project and recommend your installer ? I would also appreciate if you can let know how much you spend on a similar project.

Quote 1.) Install new complete 2.5 ton & 4 ton XR14 (14 SEER class) complete Trane systems. The system includes new Trane XR80 standard efficiency gas furnaces, new Trane XR14 outside condensers, new condenser slabs, new power whips for condensers, new outside disconnects, new hi-def XL824 Trane touch screen 7 day programmable thermostats with WiFi capability and smart phone access, new Trane evaporator coils, new all metal return air plenums with filter compartments, condensate safety shut off switches, mastic seal all connection points on installed equipment, permits and inspection & proper disposal of old equipment. We will upsize return air ducting as required. We will also replace the breakers in the panel to match the unit nameplate requirement. Warranty: The Trane systems comes with a Trane 10 year all parts factory warranty, 20 year heat exchanger warranty and 1 year labor warranty. 0% interest financing with 60 equal payments: $15,450.00 (tax included) or $1,500.00 “Instant Rebate” for all cash transaction: $13,950.00

The system includes new Trane XV80 high efficiency, communicating variable speed gas furnaces, new Trane XV20 outside condensers, new condenser slabs, new power whips for condensers, new outside disconnects, new hi-def XL950 Trane touch screen 7 day programmable thermostats with WiFi capability and smart phone access, new Trane evaporator coils, new all metal return air plenums with filter compartments, condensate safety shut off switches, mastic seal all connection points on installed equipment, permits and inspection & proper disposal of old equipment. We will also replace the breakers in the panel to match the unit nameplate requirement. Warranty: The Trane systems comes with a Trane 10 year all parts factory warranty, 12 year compressor warranty, 20 year heat exchanger warranty and 2 year labor warranty. 0% interest financing with 60 equal payments: $19,495.00 (tax included) or $1,500.00 “Instant Rebate” for all cash transaction: $17,995.00

The only thing I can recommend is if you're a Costco member to check with them, they always have great deals and usually Costco cash cards as a rebate incentive. I've seen it as high as %10 back

Prices seem high. I would get at least 3 other bids and tell them all that you're shopping around with multiple contractors. Trane is the most expensive brand so I would get quotes on a few other brands as well.

has anyone given you a cost/benefit analysis of those various SEERs for your particular house?

How long would it take you to cover the price diff with electric savings from a 16 SEER vs a 14 vs a 20 SEER?
