Actually Fair Park has less crime than North Park, according to a D Magazine article of some years ago.
And whoever posted that Downtown is 'crime-time' needs to put out some numbers to support this claim. I read in the last few days that Downtown had a 9% drop - also it's now covered with cameras, as is Deep Ellum, which now has virtually no crime.
The problem spots are late-night dance places, so if you are not in the vicinity when they let out at 2 am weekends, you probably won't have a problem. Also Downtown will soon have 10,000 permanent residents paying high rents and prices -- from what I hear 'everyone knows everyone' so they are pretty good at stamping out any nuisances

LOL!!! And you couldn't tell that people are avoiding the downtown area on the nights the Mavericks or Stars are playing at AAC. 100's of people park over under Woodall Rogers and other parking lots w/in downtown or the former West End and walk to and from the arena. They stay after and hangout in Victory Plaza or go to Hooters and other places till midnight and no problems. The reason the West End folded had nothing to do w/ crime.
Everytime they show on the news some bar fight ended in a shooting or stabbing they are always in some back alley location and not even downtown. Occuring typically between 2 and 3 am between a bunch of thugs. Don't hang around lowlifes drinking and getting stupid that are armed.

Yes, you guys are right for the most part Dallas is a safe place to live. I guess I have just been in the hood too much or something and if any of you'll out there have ever been down Dixon Circle, or Bonton Block you'd know what I mean. Yes, the surrounding suburbs and places like North Dallas and Lake Highlands are safe that is not the issue here. The issue here is the inner city and Dallas' inner city is up there with some of the worst. I've never been to the hood in Detroit, but I've heard it is pretty rough up there. Like I said I spent about 3 years in Inglewood and Compton and about 1 year in East Point and College Park. Here is the main difference to me. If people in South Central L.A. know your not gang related their not going to **** with you. Atlanta's hood spots were perhaps some of the tamest I've ever seen, but I didn't go to Bankhead, which I hear is pretty rough. In Oak Cliff it don't matter if your gang related or not you better watch your back, and the same is to be said about most hoods in the Big D!

A kid was just killed in LA recently. They asked him if he was in a gang and before he could respond they killed him.

According to a report I saw on the local news, it's actually just 3 or 4 dance clubs in Deep Ellum that cause most of the problems. City wants those high life renters to stick around and pump cash into the big D, so they're trying to get a law passed that'll require a specific kind of operation license for clubs like that. The aim is to either get the clubs to clean up the crowd, or boot them out altogether.

Didn't they already revoke a bunch of permits for some of these clubs?

What about the family a few years ago that was from out of town while visiting LA made the wrong turn and ended up in a dead end street and some gang started firing at them and it killed their little girl. Sure, they don't bother non gang members. Right.........
Inner City Dallas DOES include the area around the AAC and it is pretty hopping during games. Don't see many gangs hanging round there giving people trouble. Haven't seen many gangs hanging around Knox-Henderson enjoying the rita's at Chuy's. They also don't bother shopping down the street from there at Weir's for their furniture.
FYI, my dad grew up a few blocks from Little Mexico in Dallas and I've been down every street just about in all of Dallas and never feared for my life. I just don't go cruisin down MLK or such at 2 in the morning flashing my grill, gold rims spinning on the lowered Caddie w/ the bass thumping. But going around all over Dallas for work or whatever has never been a problem. I've stood out by one of our trucks that broke down on a Friday night down south of downtown. No one bothered me while I was waiting on the tow truck.

I walk around Deep ellum and Downtown at night. There are people walking to and from the Iron Cactus and Urban Market and places like that as long as they're open. Mostly upper middle class types. I just get hasseled by bums about everyday, but they usually take no for an answer.

This is about the dumbest p**sing contest I have ever seen. Who cares who's hood spots have the most crime? Yes, Dallas has rough neighborhoods. Yes, so does L.A. on a much bigger scale. So what? This post sounds like some kid in McKinney with an old N.W.A. cd on his Ipod. I'm from L.A. In the tough areas of L.A. (is there anyone left in L.A. who says "South-Central"? I haven't met one in years) it is like every other bad neighborhood. Innocent people die from stray bullets shot by gang members. People get robbed and rolled by gang members. What is your point? Good for you. Oak Cliff is a very bad 'hood. Yay, Dallas wins. Whatever.
