We are moving from out of state and have narrowed our home search to Rockwall or Keller. Which city do you prefer and why?
Background info:
Moving from California
We have kids, dogs, and like to be outdoors.
Husband is working in Irving but willing to commute.
We have choose Keller and Rockwall for their schools and community feel
Lake family
budget is under 300k

Thank you for all your advise and opinions!
My husband is already out there working but we would like to get a feel from people who have lived in those cities .

Both of those cities will be a LONG commute through heavy traffic to Irving, but Rockwall will be awful. No way would I subject my husband to that! If you want to be near a lake, look at Lewisville, or Grapevine.

We looked at lewisville but weren't too impressed for the school ratings. He's the one who picked the areas. I think he's used to it because his commute was about 1 1/2 hours in CA. Irving and Dallas ect are too big city for us. He's staying in Keller now.

Neither works for his commute, neither schools are worth this commute, however if you guys have your heart set on living there then go with one where you find best house at best price, meeting your housing requirements.

I can't vote for either based on the criteria you provided. Did you look at Grapevine? Schools are comprable and close to Lake Grapevine. Great family suburb adjacent to Irving. Would probably cut 1 hour/day off the drive from Irving to Keller.

Just voting on which one I prefer, Rockwall- hands down.

We did look into grapevine and the homes are a little over budget for what we're looking for, we'll keep looking around there though. This current job also isnt a career for my husband so hopefully he can move closer in the future. Rockwall looks better all around on paper. Loved it too, never have actually been to Keller.

With no other factors involved I prefer Rockwall to Keller. I much prefer the Dallas side to the Ft Worth side of the metro.

Last time I drove from my office in Las Colinas to Rockwall after work, it took 1.5 hours. There is NO reason to make a commute like that in north Texas!

I like both areas, but I would see if you can make Grapevine work for your budget. If you insist on Keller or Rockwall, I suspect Keller is going to be the easier commute. Not easy, but easier.
