I take care of my 70 year old mother and we are looking for a nice, safe 2 bedroom apartment in the Dallas/FT Worth area. Right now we are surviving on her Social Security and fund are really tight. Once we get settled, I will be looking for a job to supplement our income.

Unfortunately, like so many other people, we ran into some financial troubles and had to move in with distant relatives. Both of our credit scores are bad which I know would mean higher deposits or even outright denial when renting. We also have one broken lease but it hasn't shown on our regular credit scores but I understand that the industry has its own database so I am not sure if it is there or not as I wasn't able to find anything on the web about it.

Basically at this point, we are trying to find affordable and safe areas to look for apartments, whether we do the searching ourselves or we use a locator service.

Also any recommendations for apartment locators would be appreciated as there are a ton of them out on the internet.

Thanks!

Can you get on the list for senior housing? The older section of Little Elm has cheaper housing, not sure of prices. It is a generally safe area.

I'm really sorry, but you won't find a 2br apartment that's safe for that price. I live in Arlington where rent prices are lower and I pay a little over $900 for a 1br. DFW is no longer budget friendly like it used to be 5 years ago.

However, you might look into senior apartments. They are age restricted and often have lower rent prices.

My mother and I rent a two bedroom for $900 in Garland off of Bass Pro. It's okay- there's some ruckus but we've never had issues with break-ins or anything serious.
We also used to rent a 2/2 for $850 at a fairly nice complex in Mesquite. It was gated and security patrolled at night.

Used to. Not anymore. Everything is sky-high in DFW.

If you consider rural area just outside DFW, with a $900-$1000/month payment, you might want consider a single family house in city like Greenville, Quinlan, Commerce, Celeste, etc for 1000sq - 1600 sqf /2-3 bedroom house for $50K - $70K price range.
