Hi all-

Those that have moved from CA to TX, can you please recomend a good moving company that you used?

We have had some bad experiences with moving companies in the past and would like to get recomendations for good ones?

Thanks in advance.

You could always go with one of the big ones, Mayflower or NorthAmerican. We used Mayflower to get us to MN, and then back to Texas with no problems.

I will admit they where expensive, but we didn't have to pay for it

We used ABF which was the least expensive. They drop off the trailer, you load and they transport it to Dallas. When you arrive to your new home, you call them and they drop off the trailer. You unload then call them when you're done to pick up the empty trailer.

The only drawback is you have to unload yourself (or they have movers you can hire).

We used United to move from San Diego to DFW...they were great...no problems and everything arrived when it was suppose to.....they load and unload for you. I packed my own things as I am picky... Can't remember the exact cost as my husbands company paid for the move.....I remember they were reasonable though.

Up north in bay area/sacramento look into Chipman which is a United Van Lines. I had good luck with them last fall.

I also found good info at Moving: How to avoid Moving Company Scams. Despite the name, it is helpful, not scary.

We used Paul Arpin and had good people at both ends of the move.

We used ABF also and it was worth unloading ourselves with the money we saved.

We had movers pack our 26' Penske Van and additional trailer, we drove out ourselves and then we had unpackers unload and place everything here. We had pretty much complete control and enjoyed the whole experience of driving across the country.

Default Abf

We went with ABF too... there were 2 drawbacks:

1. Loading and unloading is a real pain
2. The trailer got delayed on the first day and we were without our stuff for 2 days longer than we had planned... so pay the extra $200 for guaranteed delivery if you need it there when you arrive.
