Use an address in a county that has low or no emissions requirement or find a person that gives illegal ones is all I know. And the first might be illegal too, IDK. Of course the straight answer is fix whatever is causing the problem.

I have a Friend who got his passed on an old car by taking it to a place of NW Highway and 35. Cost an extra 40 bucks to have the guy look the other way, but it was a lot cheaper than getting the sensor (which he knew was the problem for the check engine light) fixed. Obviously, for the record I don't recommend breaking the law

So how did this guy know it was a bad sensor and not a mechanical fault/failure?

I would simply follow the law and get your car emission problem fixed.

If car is a 1997 or newer, Go to an AutoZone and have them do a FREE scan to determine the faulty part(s).
The sensors cost ave $35 there, and AutoZone does a 'free*' rental of all the tools necessary to replace it (have to put a hold charge on a credit-card; refund when returned).

Look into Air Check Texas. If your income is under a certain amount, the program will pay for whatever repair is needed that is preventing the light from going out.
