I'm intrigued by a hidden presumption in this post. How does one determine whether or not a particular neighborhood is gay-friendly?
I don't recall any incidents where a torch-wielding mob descended on the house of a gay couple with intent to destroy...
You might conduct a poll... with questions such as "Do you hate homosexuals", or "Would you do violence if a gay couple moved into your block"? Assuming, of course, that people would answer truthfully to a stranger on the phone that they were homophobic bigots, and "proud of it".

I agree....Its sort of like asking if there is a fat people friendly part of town.

I'd stay away from the far southeast quad of Dallas. Seems that's where the county Repubs like to hold their local convention.

The mid-cities - Hurst/Bedford/Euless seem to be recommended areas, just west of DFW.

The OP posted this 9 months ago, so I'm assuming that his situation has already been resolved. But, since other people might be interested in this thread for their own reasons I can not let one of your comments go unchallenged. Your suggestion that the OP avoid anything south of I-30 perpetuates ignorant stereotypes. Are you familiar with most of the neighborhoods in Dallas that are south of I-30? If it is important to the OP that he find a home in a gay friendly area for about $200k, N. Oak Cliff is a perfect fit. Oak Cliff is second to Oak Lawn in gay population and it is VERY gay friendly. There are still very nice neighborhoods there where one can get a beautiful home for $200k (Stevens Park Village, Kessler Plaza, Hampton Hills, Wynnewood North are a few). The OP was moving from a very diverse, liberal city and I assume looking for a place where he would feel comfortable living and would be able to afford home ownership. While HEB might also fit that bill, I seriously doubt that it offers the same kind of diversity, character and ambience that one could find for the same price in many of Dallas' older, established neighborhoods. Particularly those in N. Oak Cliff. Granted, not all of N. Oak Cliff would be desirable to many people, but large parts of it are. If fact, large parts of it far exceed the OP's desired price point. Given that there are so many people (gay, straight or whatever) who choose to live south of I-30 but who could afford to live in just about any other part of DFW, you have to ask yourself why. Perhaps they know something that you don't. For those who are unfamiliar with the area, I recommend that you check out N. Oak Cliff. Here are a couple of websites that offer a good introduction:

DESIRES
Gay friendly area (clubbing isn't a concern)
DART Rail (not a bus line)
Small house around $200K (done the condo thing and over it)

Well, since you've assumed to control the thread... what part of DART Rail goes to Oak Cliff? I'm frequent with the Oak Lawn exit. I've seen the traffic waiting to get to Oak Cliff by way of I-35 and downtown.

The Dallas Zoo, Tyler/Vernon, Hampton & Westmoreland stations are in Oak Cliff.

Great Information
Thanks so much for the great information on gay friendly areas to live in Dallas. My partner and I hope to move to Dallas some day from Florida, and are curious to know what areas we would feel most comfortable in. Your information will be very helpful when we begin our search. Thanks!
