We're meeting with the builder on Monday to get this sorted out. It's a big headache

Which neighborhood are you moving to? I live in an Altura neighborhood as well. We bought a spec home, so didn't have to deal with the headache of building. But I noticed there were TONS of complaints online. I used to notice a lot of beer cans around the building sites in our neighborhood.

If they offer you a discount it should be equal to what it would hypothetically cost if they built the correct elevation and you decided to put in a change order for another elevation. Fairness.

Read the contract, if it's a big builder they can start over. If it's a small builder they got error and omission insurance so they too can start over.

Great you are checking on the builder.....this is important.
Your realtor should also be checking with you.

#1 Call your realtor...have them go with you to the builder to work on options.
#2 Several options....live with it as it is.... have them redo it.....get a discount for their mistake ....build on a different lot and start over....back out of the contract and get a new builder.

Keep checking on them....this is common and if they make this big mistake they'll make others.
Be sure to get a home inspection ....at this point at least 2 phase inspection....before the sheetrock goes in and again before closing.

I have had clients in similar situations. The builder is just going to have to make it right. Whether that means starting over or offering you some sort of compensation. Unfortunately, this is all too common with builders these days. They are so overworked that they end up missing some of the BIG things.
