afternoon all

my family and i are considering moving to frisco, tx in collin county in the following months

like the question states, which electric companies are we permitted to use in collin county?

does it depend on the subdivision?

we are looking at 3 homes to lease... all are relatively new (2002-2005) and are great homes but we worry about the utility bills

we are looking at an average (250/mo) so the most reliable/affordable would be great...

currently i am living in las colinas and am stuck with TXU with no other choices and i've found they are super expensive...

any advice/suggestions? thanks!

Unless you are in an area with a municipal co-op, I believe you should be able to choose from any of the other providers. Although keep in mind that a lot of the other providers are just resellers and will still be using TXU equipment. I'm surprised that you aren't allowed a choice where you are at. Unless you are in an apartment.

Actually, every retail company uses TXU(Oncor) equipment in the the Oncor areas here. But yes you should be able to choose in las colinas unless you are in an apartment or muni-coop.

To my knowledge, most, if not all, Frisco residents have to use CoServ for electricity and gas. It is a cooperative and the rates are reasonable, but obviously, a lot depends on how you set your thermostat and how well-insulated your house is...as well as its size.

We found CoServ to be a bit cheaper than TXU, but I haven't used TXU since 2002...

Hope this is helpful.

go to Power to Choose and put in your zipcode and any company that covers that area will be displayed and will give you a breakdown on price per KW.

It depends if you are in a coop or not. My mom is in Frisco and does NOT Coserv and never has. When I lived in Frisco I did NOT have to use Coserv (I used TXU then it was 1998-99).

Definitely check out Power To Choose and go from there.

I've been happy with Gexa, and they give you one american airline mile for each dollar you spend with them.

I think my mom had or has Gexa and was or is happy with it (she changes whenever she has a more competitive rate).
