Hey guys, since we are adding this info, how about we make a standard so that we can compare. I suggest someting like the following:

Zipcode | Square Footage | Heating (Gas or Electric) | Cooling Seer | Gas | Water | Electric | Kwh

i.e.

75071 | 3700 | GAS | 13 | $40 | $60 | $300 | 2800

I have been reading about the different temps you all keep your house at during the summer (read other posts, too) and I told my husband this, who is an HVAC tech/manager and he said that is not right. That keeping it at 76 and going up and down through out the scheduled times of the day uses more energy to cool a house, then if you were to keep it around 72 consistently during the hot months. I was insisting we need to keep it around what you all have said to keep our bill as low as possible. I guess the guys at work and my husband had a laugh at this.

Thoughts?

That's interesting....totally goes against everything I've heard and read!

We keep ours at 78 during the day--I'm home but have fans on. At night it goes to 72--we like it cool

how can you "keep" it at 76 if it is going up and down--
we keep ours set at 75 in the LA all the time currently and in our bedroom a little cooler at night because that is separate unit
we have the upstairs set at 80 unless someone is coming for a visit...

I live in North Dallas(75252) in a one bedroom apartment 862 square feet and the last two months my electric has been HORRIBLE--one person home all day---one that works all day thermastat usually 75 but it's been off majority of this month so far
350 month before last 3000 KWH
300 this month 3300 KWH
I had Oncor check the meter and they said it's fine. HOW THE HECK IS MY BILL SO HIGH?? It wasn't even that high in the middle of the summer!!!

So...can I put things into perspective for you all?!? Here's what I pay in New York.

Electric (no AC) $300 a month
Electric (with AC) $400-450 per month
Oil (Winter) $700 a month
Oil (Summer) $300 a month
Water $50 per month on average

I can't believe you guys get to "pick" your electric company. We only have one and they can charge whatever they like.

Can't wait to leave! Things are happening for me and I am hoping to be in Dallas within 3 months! It's actually happening!!!!! Woohoo!
