All ... a new home buyer needs some suggestions on the fence posts.

All my three sides of the fence are SHARED by 2 homes on the sides and one at the back. I need to decide on which side the posts go.

What are your suggestions?

Thank you.

In my experience, whoever pays for the fence gets the "pretty" side. If the cost is shared (or if you want to be friendly, the panels are alternated) Is this a new subdivision? Is the fence installed by the builder?

Yes ... it is a new subdivision and the fence is installed by the builder

Yes, If you have a choice - pretty side in except at the front where the pretty side is out. That way if you need to do a repair on one of the boards it's also easier on your side. If you are on a corner, the HOA may require that side to be out.

Posts go on the outside where you can't see them.

Pretty side out because if you turn them toward the home, the exposed horizontals on the back make great ladder boards for anything wanting to get into your yard

It really just depends where you live. In some neighborhoods, posts are out, and some the posts are in. I've lived in both, and there was no HOA regulation stating which way it had to be, so the original builder was the one who decided.

If you get to choose, I'd think about whether you value privacy or aesthetics more. If the posts are on the outside, the fence can be climbed from your neighbors yards easily to look into your backyard, but it will look better from your side.

If you value privacy more, consider putting the posts on the inside so no one can climb up and look over the fence.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Helps me to think over a bit more.

If it helps, I have 8 ft on the sides and 6 ft on the back (my house is on a retaining wall and the builder says that Frisco code only allows for 6 ft high on the retaining wall).

Where can I please check the regulations?

Go to the city website and there should be a spot search. Ours is actually a link to the ordinances. I would search fencing from there.

It's my understanding in a new home community who ever "builds first" gets the pick of side. And that most people pick pretty side facing. However if you are installing a pool at the same time you may be forced to put pretty side out due to safely. But I'm sure our realtors and Mike Strong can weigh in.

Thank you MurphyPl1. I was able to locate the document at http://www.friscotexas.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1005
